With the end of the year coming, many equine owners may be considering donating one of their horses to a university or therapeutic riding program for a tax write-off. There are several important facts you need to know before you decide to consider this for tax purposes.
Many people outside the AQHA hunter and USEF circuit may have never heard of multiple Congress and World Champion hunter trainer David Warner. This native New Yorker is somewhat laid back, low key, and doesn't like to "toot his own horn." But many of his clients. friends, and fellow trainers will tell you that he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet.
GoHorseShow would like to congratulate Stephanie Willsey of Canada for purchasing Must Be A Detail (Stewie) from the Papendick's of South Dakota. The 2002 bay gelding by Last Detail is a 10-time Congress and 11-time World Champion. Stewie has also accumulated over 800 points in the english events and western riding. Willsey rides with Highpoint Performance Horses, so she's had the honor of admiring Stewie pretty closely since May 2009.
The Champlin name has been in the headlines lately which prompted us to ask what ever happened to 1997 AQHYA World Champion, Christa Champlin? Christa's mother, Laurel Champlin, and sister, Cassidy, just won the
World and Congress on their new horse, Look N Hott, which we featured in
an article a few weeks ago.
Jane Humes of Fort Dodge, Iowa has been showing quarter horses for over
27 years but had never won a World Championship until now. Jane says she
has been trying to "claw" her way to the top and finally reached her
goal at the AQHA World Championship Show. Within twenty four hours, she
won back-to-back gold trophies with her horses, Design By Leaguer and VS Check My
Pulse.
Many individuals have probably never heard of newly crowned World Champion Lindsay LaPlante. Well, this 21 Year-Old from Encinitas, California just beat out the big names in a tough and intricate Tim Kimura pattern at the AQHA World Show in the Junior Trail. LaPlante and her five year-old red roan gelding, Only Good Sox (Leroy) scored an incredible 233.5 for the win.
It's been an emotional week for Amateur exhibitor Karen Ogle of Edmond,
Oklahoma. On Tuesday, she showed in the preliminaries and made the
finals in the Amateur Hunter Hack, as well as the Amateur Working Hunter with both of her horses. The next day, Ogle spent time with
her 72 year-old father, Ron Presley, at the hospital before he
peacefully passed away after a long illness.
GoHorseShow would like to congratulate Susie Johns of Paradise Valley, Arizona on purchasing Congress Western Pleasure Champion Lopin For A Chex (Lazy) from Kaleena Weakly. "I'm really excited to be able to buy such a talented young horse to build from the ground up," new owner Susie Johns told GoHorseShow. "I have always admired Kaleena's stock, and look forward to getting him solid in his lead changes and Trail."
Twenty-three year-old Sophie Schonauer of Bonn, Germany may have never shown at the AQHA World Show before, but, she was up for the challenge. What is remarkable is that due to school obligations, Schonauer was not able to show the horse she leased for the AQHA World Show before the big event. Sophie had two and a half weeks to prepare to compete in the Showmanship and Equitation at one of the most prestigious shows for Amateur competitors in the world.
The Champlin Family had an amazing debut on their new horse, Look N Hott (JJ) at the Congress. Their trainer Beth Case won the Junior Hunter Under Saddle, Laurel Champlin won the Select Amateur Hunter Under Saddle, and the Limited Non Pro Hunter Under Saddle Maturity, and Laurel's daughter Cassidy won the 12-14 Hunter Under Saddle. What was also awe-inspiring about these wins was that it was the first time Case and the Champlin's had ever shown JJ.
UPDATE: "The Home Wrecker" 2X WORLD CHAMPION.. Congratulations to Jill Roraff on winning the Amateur Longe Line at the APHA World Show with her gorgeous filly.

The Home Wrecker (Zin) with Russ Smith for owner, Jill Roraff won the Western Yearling Longe Line Slot Class with three firsts and two seconds and won a paycheck of $2800. "Thanks to Russ for the incredible job training, Zin, and your unwavering faith in my baby," the owner Jill Roraff said. "Words cannot express how proud I am of my homebred and Russ."
Fourteen year-old Jack Medows of Cuba, Missouri had an outstanding
Congress this year. This past two-time Congress western pleasure rider
turned reining competitor won the NYATT Reining and Youth 13 and Under
Reining classes with his horse, Wimpys Show Stopper.
If there was ever a "power couple" list in the horse industry, the
Weakly's of Shelbyville, Illinois would definitely be at the top of the
list. Amateur exhibitors, Kaleena and Josh Weakly, just returned from
the Congress with 11 trophies including Grand Champion Amateur Mares,
Grand Champion Open and Amateur Geldings, Amateur Showmanship and
overall Versatility Champion and now they're headed to the AQHA World Show in Oklahoma City.
UPDATE: Congrats on Robin Robinett on being the unanimous winner in Amateur Aged Geldings with Mister Redesigned and winning the Amateur 2 Year-Old Gelding with, This Kids Classic!----After being married close to three years, Larry Morse and Robin Robinett, may be still considered newlyweds, but they have been dominating the paint halter world for quite some time---this year is no different.
GoHorseShow.com is happy to report that the great mare, Only Yours, has been purchased by Bill Cosentino for one of his twin daughters, Beth, to show in her last year of youth. Only Yours just had back-to-back wins at the All American Quarter Horse Congress in the NYATT and 15-18 Western Pleasure with Ryan Small.
