About the Cover
Featured on this month’s cover of GoMag is the stunning 2019 red roan stallion VS The Fireman. Bob and Ingrid Miller purchased this royally bred stallion last August at the VS Dispersal Sale.
At age five, “Gronk,” as he is affectionately known, is already an AQHA World Champion and a multiple Congress and NSBA World Champion. VS The Fireman won the prestigious NSBA Open All-Around title at the NSBA World Show in August. Not to be outdone, he just returned from the All-American Quarter Horse Congress where he won the Level 1 Junior Trail, Level 1 Junior Western Riding, and Limited Open Western Pleasure Maturity with trainer Anthony Montes in the saddle for all three Congress Championship rides.
Montes, of Vickery Performance Horses, said Gronk is very willing and incredibly smart. “He’s a pleaser and knows and wants to do his job well. There is nothing he can’t do. I would encourage mare owners to breed to him because of his natural talent, disposition and looks.”
“He is just like a Golden Retriever,” his owner Ingrid Miller told GoHorseShow. “I often go in his stall and talk to him and pet him. He has a wonderful disposition, soft and not stud-like. He can get collected and show the same day.”
Miller adds, ”What is also very special about him is his cadence. Every step he takes is precisely the same, which significantly helps in a class like trail. He has excellent conformation, a wonderful disposition and historical lineage.”
Gronk comes with a superior pedigree. He is by the leading AQHA sire Machine Made and out of VS Lady In Red, an earner of over $120,000 and producer of over $72,000, with a grand dam lineage of Cool Krymsun Lady, an earner of $150,278 and 478 AQHA points and a producer of over $558,000 in earnings, and of course, the legendary Vital Signs Are Good.
His first foal crop is now yearlings with one, Flurtin With Fire, already winning a Reserve Congress Championship in the Western Yearling Longe Line Stakes shown by Anthony Leier. “His babies sell quickly, and they are already exhibiting Gronk’s talent and disposition,” Ingrid says.
Next up, Anthony and Gronk will be showing at the AQHA World Show in the Junior Trail, Junior Western Riding, Level 1 Trail and Level 1 Western Riding stakes classes.
In January, Gronk will head to show in Florida. Then, in February, he will stand at stud at Tom McCutcheon’s facility in Aubrey, Texas. His breeding fee will be $4,000 plus a chute fee.
GoHorseShow wishes the Millers, Gronk, Anthony Montes, and everyone connected with this once-in-a-lifetime horse the best of luck in their future endeavors.
