Kim Dean Stallion Marketing Services is thrilled to announce that Rodrock Ranches’ legendary stallions, Only In The Moonlite, Certain Potential, Huntin For Chocolate and A Scenic Impulse as well as Jane Backes’ AQHA Champion, NSBA BCF World Champion, Good Machinery, are in their new home in Aubrey, Texas.
Well respected horseman, Brad McCamy, along with Nolan and Kelly Kay (Elvrum) Johnsrud of Million Dollar Performance Horses are the new stallion and breeding managers for the studs.
“They have state-of-the-art breeding equipment and facilities and are well equipped to handle this large group of stallions,” Dean told us. “Brad has had years of experience standing stallions which made him an easy choice for stallion owners Darol Rodrock and Jane Backes.”
McCamy is no stranger to working with legendary stallions. He started out standing The Invester, for owner Jack Benson. He and his wife, Kelli, then went on to stand their World Champion and NSBA Hall of Fame stallion, Impulsions. Recently, Brad was the stallion manager for Blazing Hot, Extremely Hot Chips and John Simon.
“He is like talking to the entire stack of old Quarter Horse Journals,” says Jane Backes, who owns the stallion, Good Machinery. “Brad remembered and worked with all the old bloodlines. He remembers every horse that ever was bred to The Invester or Impulsions right down to their markings. We talk for hours on how certain crosses work, which to stay away from and the little quirks of some of the ‘greats.’”
Nolan and Kelly Kay (Elvrum) Johnsrud have a tremendous amount of experience showing and breeding great mares. Kelly is a multiple Amateur Congress Champion and Nolan trains and shows western pleasure horses. Originally from North Dakota, the Johnsrud’s decided to move to Pilot Point after Kelly’s father unexpectedly passed in 2011. They have a great band of broodmares, including the great mare, Miss Good N Red Dee, as well as extensive knowledge of bloodlines and pedigrees.
“Back in late November of 2017, Nolan and I (pictured left) made the decision to restructure our horse business/hobby a bit. We approached Brad to see if he would be interested in working for us. He graciously agreed and we planned to find ways to create revenue to make this possible,” Kelly states. “When we were approached in January about standing the stallions, it felt like a blessing from above had just landed in our laps. Being a stud farm was not our original plan, but it made so much sense given the specific talent, experience and interest that Brad and Nolan collectively share.”
Legendary breeder Brad McCamy adds, “I have always had a true passion for the horse breeding business. I am honored to work with these legendary stallions and feel blessed to be a part of the Million Dollar Performance Horses team and pass on my lifetime of experience to Nolan and Kelly.”
Their goal, along with Kim Dean, is to grow the business to about ten great stallions. “We are open to diversifying the lineup by including other disciplines such as hunt seat, reining or cutting stallions. We want mare and stallion owners to know that we consider it a privilege to serve the horse industry, and we don’t take this opportunity for granted,” Kelly says. “We take quality nutrition and care seriously, and it is also essential to us that the horses are happy. These beautiful animals have shaped our industry and lives, and they deserve the best. We will always strive to deliver a Million Dollar Performance.”
They welcome all visitors to come and see the stallions any time. Million Dollar Performance Horses is located at McCamy Quarter Horses, 6586 Lone Star Lane in Aubrey, Texas.
All stallions will be offering a $100 off each breeding fee as a ‘barn warming’ gift to all mare owners through February.
Please contact Kim Dean 903-815-3347 or [email protected] for contracts or information on breeding to any of the stallions.
