GoHorseShow would like to congratulate Gavin Patterson of Frankfort, Ohio on the purchase of KM Genuinely Best (Benny) from Masterson Farms, LLC. This gorgeous 2014 red roan gelding is by RL Best Of Sudden and out of Genuine Goodbar.
Patterson and Benny will be under the guidance of Ty and Karen Hornick Quarter Horses. If everything goes as planned, Benny will be shown in the Three-Year-Old Novice and Non-Pro Classes this year.
“I flew up and rode him at the Masterson’s after the Florida circuits, and I just loved him,” Gavin told us. “He is an old soul and great minded.”
Karen Hornick agrees, “I just love his presence. He is very eye-catching and trainable. He also has a lot of self-carriage which is what we always look for in a prospect.”
Casey Willis, who trained Benny, states, “Benny is an excellent, strong three-year-old. He is very quiet and has come along so well in his training. At the Congress last year, we decided he wasn’t quite ready for the Masters Two Year Old Western Pleasure Class, so we decided to hold him back for the novice and maiden events for this year.”
Benny was known around the farm as being the kind of horse that loves both people and mischief. “He also knows that he is handsome,” chuckled Casey.
So how did this looker get the name Benny out of all the possible names out there?
Blair Townsend, a trainer with Masterson Farms, shared with us, “We name all the prospects as they come into the program as two-year-olds, and he became Benny when one of our colt riders was singing the song ‘Benny and the Jets.’ We were naming babies after songs and singers that year and were running out of names. So, that’s how he became Benny. And it fits him perfectly.”
Gavin (pictured left with Benny) will still be showing She Will Be Hot in the youth and maturity western pleasure classes, but look out for this new team in the futurity classes at a show near you.
