The Dixie National Equestrian with Disabilities Show that was held in Jackson, Mississippi on February 5th illustrated to everyone what is so special about horses and how they touch people’s lives. Anyone who has worked, judged, or participated in these shows know this is what horses and showing are all about.
AQHA judge Tom McBeath has judged the show every year and says it is his favorite event to volunteer his time. “There is nothing better than judging these kids that love their horses and never want to stop riding,” McBeath states. “They are all so excited to be there and all of them are so inspirational to watch and be around.”
There were 39 AQHA entries and over 100 in the open EWD breed classes. There was no entry fees, no stall fees, and all riders received Dixie National awards. According to McBeath, The Dixie National AQHA EWD Show has been held for over 10 years–pretty soon after AQHA started offering the classes. Also, the Dixie Nationals took over the open breed portion of the show two years ago.
“This show has the opportunity to be so much bigger but and we are working to get the word out,” says, Emily Jo Peak, who volunteered at the show and is an equine photographer. “It’s a wonderful event to be a part of!”
