Austin Gooding Final Report-Saturday July 2, 2011–As the AJPHA World Show is coming to a close, I look back at my youth career at the world show with great pride and awesome memories. I have been very fortunate to show some great horses at the world show and have made great life long friends.
My ride this year on, RL Sudden Style, A.K.A 700, was the best ride I think I have ever had at the world show. My cut ride was really good, and I was in the first cut of two–so when I came out, my mom took my horse back to his stall and unsaddled him to let him relax until the finals. It allowed me to go and watch my competition in the second cut. There was a couple of hours between the cuts and the finals, so I just chilled out, sat back at the stalls, joking around with friends and family that had came out to support me.
When the finals finally rolled around, and it was time for me to go get checked in, I was feeling really good. My horse was as prepared as he could possibly be, and I was feeling confident in his abilities. In the finals, we were twelfth to jog through the center out of fifteen horses. He jogged down the center, and it felt good to hear all my supporters cheering for me. When all the horses were in, they had us reverse and go to the right first. 700 is pretty even both directions, but if he has a better way; it’s probably to the right. I was excited to go to the right first, and when we reversed, they called for the lope right away–that was even more exciting.
APHA judges usually don’t mix up the calls very much, so this was pretty cool. 700 was great, I really couldn’t of asked for him to be any better. I wasn’t nervous at all, just focused on my ride. When it was all said and done I had a first, a third, a fifth, and two sixths, so by the time you throw out your high and low placings I was fourth overall and with all the multiple world champion pleasure horses in the class I was very happy. I know I have said it before, but I really would not of had as great of a youth career without my parents, Garth and Sonnesa Gooding and the Bauer family. They are always there for me, at my high points and low points, I truly understand just how fortunate I am to be surrounded with great support from so many people. Ad © Kelly Graphics
The next two days were the horsemanship and western riding classes. Again both the novice and 13 and under horsemanship was won by Alexandra Marlow. Wow, what a great show Alexandra is having. I was fortunate enough to meet Alexandra and her mother for the time at this show and what nice people they are. The novice horsemanship reserve world champion was Johanna Proefrock and Fleetstreet Max, the 13 and under reserve world champion was Drew Rogers with Shez Eye Candy, and the 14 was won by Taylor Prince showing One Flashy Sensation and reserve was Taylor Dixon showing My Sensational Cookie.
The novice western riding was won by Paige Kemper riding Mr Jack Cool and reserve was Sarayah Voorhees riding Zippos Noble Reason. 13 and under world champion was Shez Eye Candy and Drew Rogers and reserve was Louies Soleman with Haylee Schoonover. 14-18 world champion was Hesa Texas Hobo with Ashley Wildes and reserve was HR Zip Me with Paige Stawicki.
The show ended with two exciting classes, parents western pleasure which was won by Jennifer Cornett and Sip Of Cuervo, and the youth versatility class which was won by Desarae Gilley and A Sudden Legacy.
I would like to take this time to congratulate everyone on their wins at the world show this year. It will be weird not coming back to compete next year, but I look forward to my amateur career. I also look forward to embarking on some new endeavors this year as it is my final year as a youth, I will be competing this year at the All American Quarter Horse Congress as well as a few other AQHA shows. I would also like to thank GoHorseShow for asking me to do this blog, I had a blast doing it!
Thursday June 30, 2011–Today at the AJPHA World Show was Novice Trail finals won by Alexandra Marlow and Glowin Easy and the finals of the 14-18 Trail won by Taylor Dixon and My Sensational Cookie. The Western Pleasure classes were the next big events of the day. The Novice and 13 and Under Western Pleasure was won by Alexandra Marlow with reserve in the novice going to Brokers Lucky Kid and Mackenzie Preston and reserve in the 13 and Under going to A Scenic Cheerleader and Brennan Coulson.
There were prelims of the novice and 14-18 and the finals of the 13 and under. The World Champion in the 13 and under was Brennan Coulson and A Subtle Impulse. Brennan is the brother of Makenna Coulson who earlier this week had won the Walk-Trot Showmanship, and today was reserve in Walk-Trot Trail and also won another world title in Walk-Trot Western Pleasure.
Today the AJPHA World Show started with the Hunter Hack classes followed by
the Hunt Seat Equitation classes. I thought that the patterns were some of the
best I have seen, even from the past world shows. Alexandra Marlow and Glowin
Easy won two of the tough equitation classes–the Novice Youth Hunt Seat
Equitation 18 and Under and the Youth Hunt Seat Equitation 13 and Under.
Congratulations Alexandra!
I had a busy day preparing for my classes coming up on Wednesday and Thursday.
I had a great trail lesson from trainer and friend Robin Frid. My parents
trained and hauled Robin as a youth, so he is a very close family friend. I
would like to thank Robin for all his help in the trail over the past week.
Also, today Michelle and Lois Bauer, my parents partners in their business and
our second family came in today to watch me show, as well as client and friend
Kara Hartmann, I want to thank everyone for their support it means the world to
me.
Day three at the AJPHA World Show started with all the halter classes followed by the prelims and then of the Hunter Under Saddle classes. The 14-18 Hunter Under Saddle was won by barn mates Calli Rouse taking the World Championship and
Reserve going to Taylor Prince.
There was kids day, which consisted of face painting, hole hoops, and a fun picture area. And, oh yes, I did get my parents barn logo painted on my arm, like a tattoo along with friend Zach Klenke. We got fun pictures taken too. We
were having fun with the little kids.
The day ended with everyone preparing for Monday’s Hunter Hack and Equitation classes and me getting ready for my trail class on Wednesday, and my western
pleasure class on Thursday.
One thing that is different this year is how they tally the cuts. Instead of calling a certain number of exhibitors back from each cut, they bring back the top 15 to 17 horses from all cuts. It seems as though there are mixed feelings on this change.
The showmanship finals were followed by a youth boot scramble and then a welcome party sponsored by Double C Acres of Morganton, North Carolina. Then on to getting ready for Sundays events, halter and hunter under saddle classes. I will be watching and cheering for all my friends in those classes. Good luck to all!
Friday June 24th, 2011–After all the preparing to get to Fort Worth and the setting up of all the stalls, the 2011 AJPHA kicked off the World Show today, Friday June 24th with the Youth Team Tournament competition (YTT).
The rest of the day consisted of preparing for the next eight days of competition. Following a hard days work everyone got dressed up in their finest and attended the evenings big event, the AJPHA Year-End Awards Banquet, honoring everyone’s 2010 accomplishments. Also, included were amazing speeches from the 2010 #1 Youth 13 & Under Madison Malsch and the #1 Youth 14-18 Paige Stawicki. (pictured left Madison and Paige)
Congratulations to everyone on their wins in 2010! I am very excited to write this blog for this year, as this is my final year as a youth and there is no better way to treasure all the memories than to blog about it. So, I look forward to the next eight days of fun and excitement here in Fort Worth. Good Luck to everyone! (Pictured left is Madison Malsch and Paige Stawicki)
Stay tuned for more exciting news from Austin throughout the show.
