Leaving A Winning Legacy: Dan McWhirter Quarter Horses offers its herd for sale

On Saturday, the 18th of September, 31 years of excellence at Dan McWhirter Quarter Horses will come to an
end. The AQHA leading breeders will consign their great
stallion, Absolute Investment, more than 80 selected broodmares, foals,
yearlings and show prospects for their complete dispersal sale. In addition, 15 more Absolute Bloodlines horses from other consignors will be included in this auction event for a total of 95 horses.

The sale will begin 4 p.m. at the Lancaster Events Center in Lincoln, Nebraska and will run in conjunction with the Nebraska Silver Classic Futurity.

“We have lived and breathed horses 24-7 for 32 years. It is so demanding on our time. We can’t go anywhere without worrying about the horses at home,” Dan said. “My wife, Carol, and I want to do some more farming, be able to travel, relax and enjoy life.”

Carol adds, “We are putting all of our best horses in the sale. I would like everyone to know that if they need any help with the horses, please contact me. I enjoy helping clients and look forward to still attending horse shows. It is so rewarding to see the offspring of our stallions perform.”

With the exception of Absolute Investment, every McWhirter consignment will be sold with no reserve. If Absolute Investment does not meet his reserve, he will continue to stand at the Kentucky Division of Gumz Farms.

“Absolute Investment is the best horse we have ever owned. He breeds strength in his hocks and good bone structure from his sire, The Invester,” Carol says. “His kind disposition and level top line come from the influence of his maternal grandsire, The Big Investment. From the beginning, our breeding philosophy has been to breed for balance and that characteristic prepotently shows in Absolute’s offspring.”

Dan McWhirter Quarter Horses has left its mark on the quarter horse industry for more than 30 years. The widely-known breeders have bred and raised some of the most influential sires of the performance horse world. This includes two Hall of Fame stallions, The Big Investment and The Invester, as well as Good Asset and Absolute Investment. These stallions and the success of their progeny led Dan McWhirter Quarter Horses to achieve AQHA Top-5 Leading Breeder ranking.

Upon receiving this top AQHA status this spring, Dan and Carol McWhirter decided they were ready to retire from the horse business to expand their farming operation.

“It’s a good time to step aside when you’re at the top of your game,” Carol said. “We put a lifetime of effort into breeding quarter horses. Being recognized as a leading breeder by the largest horse registry in the world lets us know we have achieved our goals.”

Dan McWhirter Quarter Horses’ AQHA status includes Top-5 in Performance point earners, Performance class winners and Performance Halter class winners. They also tied for 18th in all-time breeders of AQHA Performance ROM horses and were ranked Top-10 in Performance Halter class wins and Top-15 in Performance class wins.

However, the McWhirters are quick to attribute their success to their clients.

“We are a Top-5 breeder because of the success our customers have had with these horses,” McWhirter said. “We spent a lifetime developing our breeding philosophy and are happy to be able to give others the opportunity to carry on the Absolute bloodlines.”

This once-in-a-lifetime legacy event allows people to buy with “Absolute Confidence.” A pre-sale party will be held September 17. Alan Parker Auctions will provide the sales management for the event; contact them at 813-220-4668.
