He did it again. On November 23, western pleasure wonder horse A Certain Vino took the senior western pleasure world championship at the 2013 AQHA World Championship Show, the last night of the show. That brings “Vino’s” total to seven open western pleasure world championships in a row, according to his longtime trainer Karen Hornick of Jamestown, Ohio, and the AQHA database.

Look N Hott and AQHA Professional Horseman Beth Case Win Gold
This is the second world championship title that Look N Hott aka “JJ” has won under trainer and AQHA Professional Horseman Beth Case of Pilot Point, Texas. In 2011 the team won the junior hunter under saddle, and they are back to claim the senior hunter under title at the 2013 AQHA world championship title on November 22.

Ima Petite Classic Wins World in Record Breaking Fashion
Every year, it seems that the group of horses in the finals for the senior western riding at the AQHA World Championship Show is historic. The lineup assembled November 21, 2013, was no different. And AQHA Professional Horseman Charlie Cole really wanted a win for the big black 1999 gelding, Ima Petite Classic, aka “Kramer,” the 2012 senior western riding reserve world champion.

They left little doubt as to what they were looking for. Presiding over the junior hunter under saddle finals November 21 at the 2013 AQHA World Championship Show, the judges called for gaits such as the extended walk and extended canter, as well as a reverse at the trot. It was a fitting test for a class whose purpose is to prepare horses for over-fences classes.

Son of Hot N Blazing: MWS Sevens Are Hot Wins Sr. Trail
Twenty-three horses picked their way through the senior trail finals pattern November 19 at the 2013 AQHA World Championship Show. But the first one in the pen won. AQHA Professional Horseman Ryan Cottingim of New Albany, Indiana, guided MWS Sevens Are Hot through a tricky pattern that featured two lope wagon wheels and a trot maze that questioned whether horses could maintain their momentum.

Lets Shake Em Up Wins Performance Halter Geldings
Twenty-seven geldings were entered in the open performance halter geldings on November 18, but only one walked out an AQHA world champion. AQHA Professional Horseman Bob Kail of Scottsdale, Arizona, had him in hand: Lets Shake Em Up, aka “Riley,” a 2008 gelding by Innovation Only and out of JR Fancy Can Zip by He Can Zip.

Vernon Habighorst of Phoenix claimed yet another world champion title in amateur aged geldings with RPL My Te Cheerful, aka “Henry.” The gelding dwarfed the competition in the Jim Norick arena. “He’s 1,550 pounds,” Vernon said with a chuckle.

Josh Weakly and Elusive Premonition Repeat in Aged Mares
For the second year in a row, Josh Weakly walked out of the Jim Norick Arena in Oklahoma City’s Oklahoma State Fair Park with a world championship in amateur aged mares. And for the second year, he was leading Elusive Premonition. “She’s just more mature (than last year),” Josh said in his exclusive Journal interview. “She’s put on a little more bulk and just matured. Last year, when we showed her, she was only 4. She showed against older mares and wasn’t quite as heavy. This year, we were in that spot.”

Shannon Brown and Huntin A Gal Find Gold in Showmanship
Shannon Brown doesn’t have a lot of time to horse show. A dental hygienist from Cameron Park, California, she squeezes working with her 2005 gelding, Huntin A Gal, around a full-time work schedule. “I keep (‘Ryan’) at home and I work with him a lot on my own,” Shannon told The American Quarter Horse Journal. “Then I go up and take lessons with (my trainer AQHA Professional Horseman) Nancy (Alto Renfro). We’ve worked together for 10 years, so she’s so good at tuning me up and everything.”

It’s A Three-Peat for Darcy Reeve and A Certain Vino
Darcy Reeve of Garden City, Kansas, and A Certain Vino won the amateur western pleasure world championship for an incredible third time at the 2013 AQHA World Championship Show on November 12. The feat ties Vital Signs Are Good and former owner, Kristen Glover Galyean, in 2003, 2005 and 2007. Darcy and “Vino” are the first amateur rider and horse to win the class three years in a row.

Bivins Wins First Gold First Time in Amateur Trail Finals
First in the go for the November 11 amateur trail finals at the 2013 AQHA World Championship Show, Peyton Bivins of Amarillo was shaking coming down the alleyway, under the Gateway of Champions into the Jim Norick Arena. “I was terrified!” she told The American Quarter Horse Journal. “I was shaking the whole time coming down. This was my first time to ever be in the (trail) finals. I just went with it.”

A Well Dressed Man Takes Home Gold in Junior Working Hunter
“Today was a heart-attack waiting to happen!” a smiling Sarah Elder Chabot told The American Quarter Horse Journal. November 10 marked the AQHA World Championship Show debut for her 2008 gelding, A Well Dressed Man, aka “Calvin.” Trainer Jessica Johnson of River Falls, Wisconsin, was to steer him through the progressive and the junior working hunter classes.
