ApHC Summer Sizzler Boasts High Numbers

While the Redbud Spectacular was in full swing in Oklahoma City, the Texas Appaloosa Horse Club was hosting the second largest Appaloosa show in the country in Waco, Texas.

The show was just shy of 800 entries in everything from cattle to performance with added jackpot classes which paid out over $1,500.

“The Summer Sizzler turned out to be the largest show in club history,” says Shelly Drury, the club president. “We provided a world class trail, ranch and jump course for our competitors in preparation for the Appaloosa Youth World Show and Nationals.”

The new jackpot classes added a little more incentive for people to show, practice and have the potential to win some money.

Jess Besardi, owner of Love My Assets, thought this was the best-run show she has attended in a long time. She was also excited to see people from as far as the Carolinas competing and making the class numbers better than ever. Jess’ gelding and trainer, Kristen Layher, tied to win the Sr. Hunter Under Saddle and won the all-age added money class.

On the western side, the trail, ranch, and speed event horses and exhibitors totaled over half the show.

“It was great to see full class sizes and people enjoying the competition,” Dominique Gautier told us. “I was blessed with my horse winning the trail jackpot, and this win meant a lot because there were nice trail horses who hauled out to show at the Summer Sizzler.”
