Bee Jewelled Wins Congress Grand Champion Mare

The most coveted prize of the halter classes is Grand Champion and for the open mare classes at the Congress on Sunday, the prize went home with Ross Roark and Bee Jewelled, who is owned by Frank Berris of Sparta, Michigan.

Bee Jewelled is a two-year-old bay mare by My Intention and out of My Secret Jewell. Berris bought her at the 2015 Congress from breeders, Jeffrey and Joy Stehney of De Soto, Kansas.

“I have owned a lot of nice mares, and I mean a lot,” said owner Frank Berris. “But this mare is just the most perfect I’ve ever had. She also has an amazing personality that is awesome to be around.”

For the short amount of time this mare has been shown, she has found an incredible amount of success in the pen, even against multiple AQHA World Champions and previous Congress Grand Champions.

“She won the Open Yearling Fillies and the Amateur Yearling Fillies at the 2015 Congress. This is only her second show this year, with her first one being in Iowa. We went to get points to qualify for the AQHA World Show, and we ended up returning with 52 points.”

Berris plans to keep her strictly as a show horse and does not plan to breed her. He looks forward to taking her to the AQHA World Show after Congress in November.

“She’s just too nice of a horse to breed,” Berris states.” She’s already accomplishment so much as a two year-old. I can’t wait to see what the next couple of years bring.”

This flashy mare has already proven herself in the arena at such a young age. Her future success is very promising and highly anticipated.

“Wow, Grand Champion. I just can’t believe this – it is such an honor,” said Berris, as he carried his trophy away from the pen.
