Horse shows and state basketball championship games could be getting a new home in Oklahoma City. With conceptual drawings done, five firms and partnerships have formally expressed interest in designing a new arena for State Fair Park, home to national and international horse shows.
One of the biggest shows is the National Reining Horse Association Futurity. It draws 2,000 or more competitors to Oklahoma City for a 10-day run beginning on Thanksgiving each year. A new arena would provide a setting equal to the up-and-coming glamor of a discipline with its slides, spins, and circles that not unfairly draws comparisons to figure skating.
