We would like to send condolences to the family and friends of Daryl Lankin of Aubrey, Texas who passed away from a battle with cancer. Lankin was the long-time ranch manager for Bushy Park Farm and worked closely with breeding manager, Clark Rassi and owner, Steve Robinson.
Friends and colleagues, Clark Rassi and Kathy Smallwood, shared some memories about their close friend.
“Heaven gained another great horsewoman today,” Kathy Smallwood told us. “She loved her horses passionately and believed in them. She didn’t want to play second fiddle to anyone, and didn’t. Many times, I’d say, ‘Daryl, you can’t win them all’ …but she didn’t want to hear that because she strove to have the best. She knew her horses and made sure that they were treated with the best of care. She went way beyond the call of duty because of her love, passion and emotional involvement with each and every one. I am proud to have known Daryl and I know Heaven will shine brighter now.”
Rassi adds, “I knew this day would come about one week ago. My dear friend and partner in the horse business, Daryl Lankin has passed away. It’s been like a 25 year roller coaster ride… with never a dull moment. She had a passion and love for horses like no one that I have ever known. Daryl’s three obsessions in life were horses, trucks, and The Dallas Cowboys. Anyone who knew her was well aware that she spoke her mind freely….and you always knew where she stood on any subject whether you wanted to or not. A large part of my success in this business is due to her. Daryl had the ability to sell a horse to someone who didn’t even want one. I’m sure that there will never be another character quite like her. May you rest in peace, my sweet friend.”
Her funeral arrangements are pending and we will update the details when we have more information.
