Hi, my name is Linda Coakley. I live in Clear Lake, Washington, about 80 miles north of Seattle. I am here at the AQHA Adequan Select World Show with my gelding, Patsys Royal Secret (Charlie), my husband and traveling partner, Ron, and my trainer, Kip Larson. My other trainer, Michael Davis, couldn’t make this trip, but he will be watching from home.
This is our third year at the Select World Show in Amarillo, and Charlie and I have been fortunate enough to earn the Amateur All-Around award here the last two years. This is absolutely my favorite show. I love coming here and can’t wait to share some of the great times that we have with all of you! Hope you enjoy my pictures of the day.

As my last photo from the AQHA Select World Show, I had to send this one. This is Susie Johns and me just prior to the presentation of the Farnam All Around Awards. Susie was the Champion and I received the Reserve! Thanks to my husband, Ron, my trainers Kip Larson and Michael Davis, Jim and Deanna Searles and the Circle S family, and of course to my beloved Charlie. Lastly, thanks to GoHorseShow for allowing me to bring you these photos and share my experience!

One of the things that I love best about the Select World Show is that there are judges who act as gate stewards. Normally as an exhibitor, I don’t get to interact with the judges. At this show I get to meet these judges on a personal level which is very enlightening and often very funny. This photo is of my friend Deborah Shatley from California and me talking to Gate Steward and AQHA Judge Kenda Pipkin.

Pictured here is my new friend Linda Cline of Cushing, Oklahoma. Linda has been showing for more than 30 years and won three AQHA World Championships at this show! She received gold globes in the Two Year-Old Colts with Youre Not Kiddin Me, with her homebred, My Lady Faith in Weanling Fillies, and in the Three Year-Old Colts with Smithnwesson. Just another of the wonderful new friends I have made this week!

This is Kim Blythe with her horse Lil Bit Sleepy, her husband, Craig, and trainer Kip Larson. Kim, who lives in Langley, British Columbia, Canada finished a very impressive seventh in the western pleasure at the Select World on Wednesday. This is the first top ten in a western pleasure at the world show for Kim and she is very happy! She bought her four year-old mare, Lil Bit Sleepy from BSB Quarter Horses and has only been showing her since April. This new team went to four shows before showing in Amarillo. Kim says that her mare has the most natural lope that she’s ever ridden. After this show, she looks forward to showing her in the all around events. Kim and I have a great time being barn mates because we are very supportive of each other. We love working with Kip because he teaches us how to ride our own horses, and he always remains calm and positive which we love.
POTD#6–Tuesday September 1, 2015
My picture of the day is of Select Amateur Carin Shuler of Parker, Colorado. Carin competed at an AQHA World Show for the first time in 20 years on Monday. What is also amazing is that Carin and her mount, Good Trace (Teddy) made the trail finals which will be held on Thursday. Trail is her favorite class and Teddy being 23 years young is a veteran on the show circuit. She bought Teddy for her grandchildren and she wants to make sure everyone knew that she wasn’t “stealing” him from her grandchildren rather they were sharing him. I can’t wait to watch them in the finals. Go Carin and Teddy!
POTD#5–Monday August 31, 2015
This is Timothy and Ulrike Burke, with their daughters Milena, 5, and Patricia, 2. They are visiting from Germany. They were in the area when they saw that a major show was going on and they couldn’t resist seeing the horses. They are vacationing and on the way to see family in Colorado. They were so cute!
POTD#4–Sunday August 30, 2015
Pictured here are Dona Ramsteck, Cody Crow, Skidboot and Suki. Dona shows in ranch riding, and competes on Monday. While walking my dog, Izzy, at 10pm, I saw this cute group watching the reiners warm up in the main arena. I just had to snap a picture, because wiener dogs are always adorable!
POTD#3–Saturday August 29, 2015
This is Phil and Judy Morris from California. They have been married for 57 years! Phil has been showing cutting horses for 12 years. He first started out by hauling Judy and their granddaughter to the horse shows, but Phil decided he was tired of cleaning stalls and he wanted to show, too. This is the nicest couple ever. In Amarillo, Bill showed in the cutting while Judy is showing in the trail, performance halter mares and showmanship.
POTD#2–Friday August 28, 2015
Pictured here are some of my Washington State Select friends, Karen Kirsch, Sheryl Boller, Danette Merritt, and Colleen Kilpatrick-Riedle. These fun ladies came all the way from Washington to show at this year’s Select World Show in Amarillo. They were very excited to get the goodie bags from the show office when they picked up their show numbers. They were giggling and having so much fun that I had to take their picture. These ladies live in eastern Washington and I’m glad that they were able to make it to the show because so much of eastern Washington is currently on fire from some of the largest wildfires in state history.
POTD #1 –Thursday August 27, 2015
I love how showing involves teamwork–either husbands or wives helping the one who is showing. Pictured here is my husband Ron; I couldn’t do this without him. He is usually announcing at the shows, but at the Select World Show, we get to spend some valuable time together. We have been married 31 years and we met while we were in the Army. Ron does all the navigating on the road trips and handles all the layovers. Ron is my rock and partner.
