Lexington, Kentucky — HorseWorldGivesBack is bringing the horse world together in a fund-raising drive to benefit the people and horses affected by the recent flooding and tornadoes all throughout the country. There have been so many people affected by the flooding and tornadoes in the United States that the Horse Radio Network believed it was important for everyone in the horse world to support horse owners and non-horse owners.
The Horse Radio Network will host a radio-thon on Monday, June 6, which will be broadcast live from the Lexington (Kentucky) Red Cross office.
Then, on Tuesday, June 7, HorseWorldGivesBack is promoting a “retail day” event during which 5 percent of the amount of purchases made from participating retailers will be donated to the American Red Cross and the U.S. Disaster Equine Relief Fund. Here’s a list of the participating retailers.
• American Red Cross: Since March 31, the Red Cross has served 2.1 million meals and snacks, opened more than 200 shelters and distributed more than 1.1 million tarps, work gloves and cleaning supplies. It’s estimated that Red Cross relief operations for the disasters that have struck the United States since the end of March will cost as much as $41 million. To date, the Red Cross has not raised enough to cover that cost and hurricane season kicks off next week. Donate
• U.S. Disaster Equine Relief Fund: Administered by the Kentucky Horse Council to provide aid and relief to horse owners affected by disasters. Funds are distributed through local horse councils throughout the United States. Donate
