All signs point to this year’s World Show Sale being a “buyers market” to say the least. A dip in the economy reared its ugly head resulting in sale numbers plumeting. With the average sale price coming in at a wopping $4,755 compared to $6,655 the year before, there were undoubtedly some deals to be had if one was so inclined.
Other indications of a dismal sale were the high selling horse going for just $42,500 (a yearling western pleasure stud colt purchased by Randy Wilson) compared to $103,000 in 2007, and the total number sold down from 80% in 2007 to just 74% this year. And with almost exactly the same number of horses selling year over year (374 in ’07 and 376 in ’08) sale totals dipped from $2,003,300 to $1,331,300 which provided for a 33% drop to the overall bottom line of sellers.
Let’s all hope this is just a bump in the road and not a sign of more to come as the horse economy appears to be going down the wash rack drain.
