The Night Watchman, Billy D. Williams
In today’s economy, $10 doesn’t buy much…a bag of shavings at the Congress, a few gallons of Diesel, or a 12-pack of beer (if you don’t care what it tastes like). But when you consider that many of the horses at the top level of competition cost well over six figures, $10 is, well, pennies. If you really think about it, it is mind-boggling that we often leave these animals unattended for hours at night. That is, unless you hire The Night Watchman, Billy D. Williams (not to be confused with actor Billy Dee Williams who is best known for playing Lando Calrissian in Star Wars Espisode V and VI). For around $10 a night, Billy will check on your trusty steed at the horse show every hour between 8pm and 8am. He has found numerous horses cast, cut or colicking in the middle of the night. This year at the Select World, Billy was credited with saving the life of one famous horse because he suspected the horse was colicking, called the trainer, and they were able to get him to the hospital before it was too late.
