Greener Pastures – AQHA Develops New Program For Unwanted Horses

Many owners are concerned about the long-term care of horses they’ve bred and/or owned, even long after they’ve been sold. Now there’s a program, developed by AQHA that lets you have that option.

It’s called Greener Pastures and it’s free. Here’s how it works.

As an owner/breeder/member, you have the opportunity to enroll a horse in Greener Pastures – there is no cost for this service and it doesn’t imply a guarantee or financial commitment on your part at all.

Should a horse you enroll in Greener Pastures ever become unwanted or at its retirement, you could be contacted to help. The current owner of the horse will have the ability to view the contact information you’ve given us for this program. From there, you and the current owner can discuss ways you might help – from taking the horse back to recommending retirement homes you know about or providing funds if you so choose. The options are numerous and completely up to you and the current owner. If your situation has changed and you can’t help – there’s no obligation on your part by enrolling the horse.

The theory behind Greener Pastures is to provide caring owners with the option to provide for the long-term care of horses they’ve bred or owned over the years.
