The horse community pulled together Saturday night at the Reichert Celebration to raise money for one of their own. $57,000 was raised to benefit AQHA judge and trainer, Randy Wilson of Georgia, who has been diagnosed with cancer.
During the festivities of the $250,000 two year old pleasure class, they took time out to auction off a brand new Harris Leather and Silverworks saddle. Auctioneer Alan Parker, Nelson Otero and others who had been on hand that day helping with the Reichert Yearling sale, feverishly worked the croud for a high bid. Ultimately, Mike Farina, the owner of Invitation Only and Lazy Loper, was the proud owner of the Harris saddle with a bid of $20,000.
That did not end the generosity of the people in attendance. Mark DeFreece challenged everyone to match his $1,000 donation and the bids poured in. An additional $37,000 was raised, mostly in $1,000 increments for a grand total of $57,000 for the evening’s work.
Mike Farina, owner of Pine View Farms who purchased the Harris saddle said, “In times of need it’s important that the horse community come together and do what we can to help a fellow horseman. Randy Wilson is a great horseman and a true gentleman and I wish him and his family the best.”
