Amateur blogger, Jenna Dempze wraps up her thoughts about the Open World Show. She has some exciting news about selling one of her horses and her thoughts about the finals of the Junior Pleasure. She also made some exciting purchases at the AQHA World Show Trade Show. Let’s see what happened her final days at the show.
Jenna Dempze’s Final Days at Open World
Well the 2010 AQHA World Show is over. My last few days in OKC were full of emotion and excitement!
Thursday afternoon were the Junior Western Riding finals. My horse, Waylon, was a finalist and I couldn’t be more proud of him and Gil. Making the finals at the world show with just 9 months of western riding under their belts they did amazing! I love to watch the western riding it is a super difficult class and to watch the finals here in OKC, I am just in awe of all the great horses! Another Galyean horse family member was a superstar in the Junior Western Riding; Cool Krymsun Lady who is prepared for the pleasure by Gil, was Reserve World Champion with Charlie Cole in the junior!
With the western riding out of the way, I had all day Friday to do some serious shopping! I took Lindsey McMullen’s advice and checked out the braided leather dog collars and leashes.
My dog, Willie, is now sporting a new leather collar with conchos and a braided leather leash. I also found some really cute clothes for myself at the trade show, I even found a dress for the holiday season! I think my most prized purchase would be my Bob Berg belt, which is going to be a birthday/Christmas gift ( I love getting older, my mom just lets me pick out my gifts)! With myself and my dog decked out in new duds I think I can call my world show shopping spree a success!
It seemed like forever for Saturday to get here, but it was finally time for the Junior Pleasure Finals. The few classes before junior went really quickly and in no time at all it was show time! I gave Waylon a good luck pet and down the chute he went. The fifteen junior pleasure finalist made for a tough class. I was really impressed top to bottom in the quality that showed. With both directions worked, it was finally time to line up. I thought Waylon had shown his tail off for Gil and I had really high hopes for him :). When they started to call the placings, I felt SO nervous! Before I knew it, it was just three left standing Gil, Steve Reams, and Pat Heeley were left. I thought, Oh MY GOSH it could be any of those horses, they are all so good!!! Pat ended up third on Cool Krymsun Lady; and then there were just two left. At this point I can’t hardly sit still; either way I’m so thrilled to be where we are at! Gil finished reserve world champion!! I’m so proud of him and Waylon! The world show was bitter sweet for me. It was successful and sad at the same time. I am happy to announce that Sure Am Hot is now part of the Fritz Leeman family. Selling Waylon was hard to do but I’m ready for a new project and he is going to absolutely the best family possible. I know Katsy and her family will enjoy him as much as I did and he will bring her much success and help her achieve her dreams as he did for me. Thankfully Waylon is staying at Gil’s this winter so I don’t have to say good bye quite yet, I can slowly work my way up to it. Thankfully I can close this door and open the next with my new yearling, I’m sure she’ll keep me very busy!

November 18th, 2010
OKC keeps getting better and better! I am happy to brag on my horse trainer Gil Galyean; world champion 2 year old western pleasure!!! Congrats to Fritz Leeman owner of Onlygoodtilmidnight! Gil has been champion or reserve for the last five years in the 2 year old pleasure at the world show!
I also took in the junior cutting finals last night, it came down to a cut off for the world championship! My favorite, Third Cutting, was in the tie but unfortunately lost a cow in the cut off. He is still amazing to watch!
I also took in the World Show Salebration on Thursday. There were lots of very talented horses sold! I think overall the crowd was good and the horses sold well. I’m excited about my purchase, a yearling filly by Blazing Hot and out of Born Lopin. (She is the full sister to Master’s 2 Year-Old Congress Champion and Reserve World Champion A Slow Burn!) I can’t wait till it’s riding time!
Tonight is a big night! Gil and Waylon have the Junior Western Riding Finals! I hope to have a good report for next time!

Amateur blogger and top exhibitor, Jenna Dempze, reports about the start of Open week at the World Show. Let’s find out what she has been up to the last few days.
Start of Open Week
Hi everyone! Sorry its taken so long for me to check in again, I’ve been busy. The last few days have been packed with excitement. I’ve been doing some serious spectating since my last update. On Friday I watched an exciting Amateur Western Riding Finals! I’m glad I didn’t have to judge because they all were AMAZING! Congrats to my friend Rebekah and Nemo for bringing home the gold!
One of my favorite things about the world show is being able to watch classes that aren’t featured at your regular shows. I love watching the working cow horse classes here as well as the ranch sorting! I think if I ever trade in my western pleasure reins I’m all about the working cow horse; it looks so fun!! On Sunday, I also caught some of the Junior Cutting prelims. I watched some great up and coming cutters, if you get a chance to check out the finals watch for “Third Cutting” he is just amazing!
We’ve still been busy ourselves at the Galyean ranch. Gil and Denton showed in the 2 year old western pleasure class on Saturday. Gil made the finals with Onlygoodtilmidnight owned by Fritz Leeman. Denton had a good ride and his horse showed well but unfortunately didn’t make the top 15. I was still very proud of him he did an excellent job showing for his first world show appearance!
Gil also showed my horse Waylon in the Junior Western Riding prelims on Saturday. It was very nerve racking for everyone, this is a new class for my horse as well as Gil! He did an awesome job and made the finals, marking the third highest score to qualify for the finals!! I can’t wait to see what Thursday holds for my little lead changer! Waylon also showed in the Junior Western Pleasure prelims on Tuesday. I thought overall it was a nice group of horses and once again, glad I don’t have to judge them. Gil and Waylon had a great go and also made the finals! Gil also helped prepare the reining world champion, Cool Krymsun Lady aka Annie, for Pat Heeley to show. Pat and Annie had a great go as well and made the finals! Good luck to Gil and Waylon and Pat and Annie in the finals!
Besides doing some spectating, I participated in the Shorty’s Caboy Hattery silent auction to raise money for the Shirley Bowman Foundation. They had lots of goodies available to bid on. I was lucky enough to come home with a few items! I am now the proud owner of a pink pig with wings and also a pink saddle pad and splint boots; now I just need a girl horse to sport them! Along with the auction, Shorty hosted the annual party at the Ranch Steakhouse. I went with my mom and enjoyed some great food and awesome live entertainment! It was a night full of fun and all for a GREAT cause!
I’ve got a few exciting days ahead of me and I can’t wait to report
in! Until then happy trails!

On Tuesday afternoon, our GoHorseShow.com Amateur blogger, Jenna Dempze, showed in the finals of the Amateur Western Pleasure. Find out what it was like showing in the finals in the second installment of her blog at the AQHA World Show. Good Job Jenna!
Jenna Dempze: Tuesday November 9th, 2010
The day moved much faster than the prelims day, we were scheduled to show just after lunch time. The Galyean crew’s lunch consisted of my home baked goods; cranberry bars and pumpkin bars are the lunch of champions, right? I think so!! The barrel and pole bending finals went by quickly and before too long it was time to get ready. Decked out in my awesome new Showtime jacket (Thanks Kay and Penny!) I was ready to head down the chute!
I was sixth to trot in so I had a chance to get a good look at the horses I’d be competing with; it was a class full of great ones! With 15 of us all ready to show on the rail, we were off and jogging. The class seems like a blur now, it all went by so quickly. When the lineup was called for, I went to the middle feeling good about my ride; Waylon had given me a good trip. He is a fun horse to show; he’s the type of horse that is always thinking and keeps me on my toes, but I think that is part of why he is so special. Now my favorite part of the world show, the placings! I LOVE the suspense! The announcer began to call out finalist and then worked his way through the top ten; my heart pounded harder with each placing called! Before long I found myself and just 3 others left. I looked around and felt proud and accomplished no matter what the end result, I was left standing with 3 other great horses and riders.
In the end I finished 4th…4th IN THE WORLD! I’m proud of my horse and thankful for the chance to show him and to be considered one of the top competitors in western pleasure. I’d like to congratulate all the riders in the Amateur Pleasure Finals!
To round out my day, I helped load Waylon up to go back home for a few days rest, and, then I headed to the trade show to pick out my top ten jacket! I found my way over to the AQHA booth to pick out my leather jacket and took it to get the patch and my name embroidered on it as well. I can’t wait to get it back tomorrow night, they have a great turnaround over there!
I’m done showing but I’ve still got a lot to keep me busy. Thursday is the Amateur Cutting Finals, I’ve been appointed as head “cheerleader,” Becky wants lots of hoots and hollars! Gil also gets his turn to chase that gold trophy with my horse in the junior western riding and junior pleasure. My boyfriend, Denton DeBuhr, is showing in the 2 year old pleasure as well. So I’m going to be a busy girl this next week! I’m pretty sure I can sneek in some shopping if my mom has anything to do with it. I’ll keep you updated on any good buys or must haves that I find.
Jenna Dempze: DAY 1 at the AQHA World Show
Day 1 at the 2010 AQHA World Championship Show proved to be a successful one for the Galyean barn! Our day started off bright and early. Gil’s wife, Becky, showed in the Amateur Cutting at 8 AM, that means at 6:30 they were there and loping! Thats right no lunging for these cutters, just lope, lope, lope, and don’t forget to get your arm pumping! Becky was in the first “bunch” of cattle. In the Cutting, they split up the class into bunches or splits so that everyone gets a fair shot at cutting fresh cattle. Becky showed both her mares in the first bunch. Unfortunately, her first run on Panolas Sugar Boon didn’t go as planned but she came back and had a great run with her 2nd horse, Ms Tazzy Lena. Being in bunch 1 of 5 gave us several hours of nail bitting anticipation waiting to find out if she would make the top 15. With a score of 212.5 she made the finals and made a great start to our show day!
Now, late afternoon of day 1, it was my turn to show. I qualified my gelding, Sure Am Hot, in the Amateur Western Pleasure. With just one pleasure horse to show in the Amateur, we did a lot of just waiting around, I was thankful when Gil said it was time to put the tail in and get ready! This is my 2nd year showing at the World Show. Last year, I finished 4th on Sure Am Hot, affectionately known as Waylon to us. I didn’t feel very nervous at all during the day; it was really quiet at our stalls and didn’t really have the typical crazy horse show feel. I usually don’t get nervous before I show; I try to channel my energy into being focused instead of nervous. I did however feel a few butterflies when the announcer introduced me to the crowd while we trotted down the middle. After 2 splits and a semi final, I found myself standing in the middle waiting to hear my fate.
Now is the time I get nervous! I rewind through my ride and analyze every step; was it good enough? Did they see that? It felt good but what did it look like?? Finally my wait was over, they called my number, 573! I made the finals for a second year. I always feel blessed to be successful, there are so many talented horses and riders showing at the world show. So, I live to show another day, which is Tuesday, November 9th! Congratulations to my fellow competitors who made the finals and good luck on Tuesday!
My horse is so spoiled, with Gil living so close; Purcell is about a 45 drive from the fairgrounds, so Waylon gets to go home and sleep in his own stall after a good day of showing. For the next few days, he and I get to enjoy the comforts of home while we prepare for the finals. If he’s lucky, the weather may be nice enough he can go outside to play! As for me, on my days off of showing, I will be spending some time in the kitchen. I made some cranberry bars to share at the horse show….they did not last long! Word is out that they are awesome, and I have promised to bring more back with me. So if you are in OKC and have a sweet tooth, stop by the Galyean stalls and sneak you a little piece of heaven in my cranberry bars and also making an appearance are Gil’s favorite the pumpkin spice bars!
