A Horse Show Girl’s Guide to Eating and Shopping in Vegas

I was born and raised in the great city of Las Vegas and to this day I still call it home. As a horse show girl, every year I look forward the Silver Dollar Circuit horse
show. This year, when
GoHorseShow.com asked me to write an eating and shopping guide for Vegas, I was more
than happy to let the horse show community in on my personal favorites.

The horse show is held at the South Point Hotel Casino 9777 Las
Vegas Blvd South, Las Vegas, NV 89183, so I will use that address as the main
reference point.

Just five miles due north of the South Point Hotel Casino is a
great outdoor shopping and dining area called Town Square Las Vegas. It is a shoppers and eating paradise! You can’t go wrong taking advantage of the
great shopping at stores like Sephora, Puma, H &M and Juicy Couture, to say
the least. There are great restaurants like Tommy Bahamas or the Brazilian
steakhouse, Texas de Brazil. End the evening at Cadillac Grill, Lolitas
Cantina, Blue Martini or my personal favorite, Nu Sanctuary Lounge.

OLD VEGAS

About 10
miles from South Point is Piero’s which is by far one of our favorite Italian
restaurants. I’m not in the
minority as Piero’s has won Zagat’s favorite Italian restaurant in Vegas for 10
years in a row. Their website says
it perfectly, “Piero’s is deeply rooted in Las Vegas history and culture. It has
been a favorite of locals, visitors, businessmen, politicians and celebrities
including the Rat Pack, star athletes, actors, and musicians.” A must dine!

Battistas Hole in the Wall is also a
great place for family dining. Tucked away near the strip by the Flamingo Hilton, it has traditional
Italian food and a prefixed menu with wine, salad and after dinner coffee. It
is a great place for a big group but reservations are highly recommended.

Looking to check out downtown Vegas?
Make a reservation at Hugo Cellar in the Four Queens. Great fine dining at good prices.

If you are daring, I suggest you hit the China Town area around
the West Desert Inn just west of the strip. There you will find multiple Asian
and sushi restaurants.

For those wanting more of a party scene, the Little Buddha is a
fabulous restaurant at the Palms hotel which is about 10 miles from the horse show. Hit it on a Friday or Saturday this
month and I promise you will get to relive Spring Break all over again as the
Palms is often home to the greatest parties. By chance you might even run into Adrienne Maloof, one of
the owners of the Palms. You may
know her from The Housewives of Beverly Hills fame.

STEAK

You can pretty much go to any of the major casinos and find a really
good steak house. For a non-hotel
steakhouse, our family favorites are Smith and Wolensky and Del Friscos.

Smith and Wolensky is on the strip near the MGM about 7 miles away and is open until 1am
during the week and 2am on the weekend

Del Friscos located off Paradise Road, is a little further.

If you have a little time and want to take a drive and see the
outer parts of Vegas, the Red Rock Resort and Casino is about 20 minutes from the horse show and has a great steak house
called T- Bones with an amazing patio to enjoy. Also, for the sushi
connoisseurs, Hachi has an amazing menu. Bring the kids they will have an equal
time at the Regal movie theater or Kids Quest which
is an hourly child care center that kids love.

MEXICAN

The Lindo de Michocan is by far the best and most authentic
Mexican restaurant in Vegas. Voted the number one Mexican restaurant in Vegas 6
years in a row, they have four different locations and that are equally great.
The closest to South Point would be the one in Henderson.

Of course if you are in a hurry any Roberto’s Taco Shop
http://www.robertostacoshop.com/home/ will do the trick

BURGERS

Another Vegas must is Fashion Show Mall (about 10 miles away) and one of my favorite places there is Strip Burger. They have an outside patio that overlooks the Wynn Resort and it is the best people
watching ever! They have a fabulous bar with to die for vodka lemonades that cannot
be missed!  Fashion Show Mall has great shopping with such upscale stores as Louis Vuitton, Apple and Neiman Marcus.

We have a new place called Smash Burger that is a small chain. I
haven’t had one of their juicy burgers, but my friends give it rave reviews.

Last, but certainly not the least, is Hash House A Go Go. Hash
House serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and has been written up in numerous
publications and seen on many food shows. Huge plates of “twisted farm food”
that will leave even the biggest appetite fulfilled! There are three locations
in Vegas but the closest and newest is just 5 minutes away in the M Hotel.
