Despite it being cold and rainy, the Virginia Classic went off without a hitch this past weekend. The first annual $50,000 Hylton Maiden Classic was a huge success with deep competition. Hylton Quarter Horses trainer Steve Meadows said there were over 690 stalls sold which was double from last year. The pleasure classes were also huge with splits in most of the classes.
Kruzer Candids from Virginia Classic
“The maiden class was absolutely wonderful,” Meadows told GoHorseShow.com. “There was a huge crowd and the judges were great. We were ecstatic about the success of the whole show.”
Only A Summer Breeze by Invitation Only won the $50,000 Hylton Maiden Three-Year Old Western Pleasure. The three year old bay mare is owned and raised by Dan and Kathryn Frederick and was shown by Brian Baker.
The judges for the Hylton Maiden Classic were Suzy Jeane, Kelly McDowall, Holly Hover, and Chris Jones. There was an exhibitor’s party and also a headstall auctioned off before the class to benefit a young show exhibitor fighting cancer. Cecilia Hylton bid $10,000 for the headstall with all proceeds going to the young lady. The next day, she came to the show grounds and thanked Ms. Hylton for her generous donation. According to Meadows, there wasn’t a dry eye on the show grounds.
Thanks to youth exhibitor Cydney Benes for the fabulous candids!
