Hi All,
Attached is entry form for the WCHA Breeder’s Championships (futurities for weanlings and yearlings by nominated stallions to be held September 24th and 25th in Des Moines, Iowa.) This is a reminder that “early bird” nomination for weanlings is due May 15. (postmarked by, no exceptions) You’ll still be able to enter later but you’ll save $50.00 by entering early. To answer some questions you may have about the futurities, I’ll detail some that have been asked thus far.
1. Can I enter just the Non Pro portion of the futurity, or just the “color” portion of the futurity without entering the Open ?
No, when placing an entry each horse is automatically entered in the Open but for an additional $50.00 you can enter the Non Pro portion of the futurity. Fifty percent (50%) of all stallion nominations are allotted to the Non Pro portion of each weanling futurity with the remaining 50% to the open. A non pro exhibitor can earn money from both purses. Same for the color classes, $50.00 additional entry fee with 100% paid back.
2. Can I have an open exhibitor show in the open portion and then switch exhibitors for the non-pro? No, same exhibitor.
3. Will the weanlings be split into early and late age groups ? Yes. After all the entries are in the split will be determined at that time depending on foaling dates.
4. How many places will be paid out in the futurities? In the open and non pro weanling futurities we’ll pay at least 10 places, the color portion of each futurity and the yearling classes will depend on the number of entries in each class.
5. Is my yearling eligible this first year ? Yes, if it’s sired by one of the nominated stallions.
6. How do I know if I’m eligible for the non pro classes. If you have a youth or amateur membership with any of the breed associations. Furthermore you must not have received a commission from the sale of any horse while holding youth or amateur status.
7. If I miss the first payment can I still enter the futurities? Yes. For the weanling futurities there are 3 payment options ( First nominations due May 15, if you miss that you can pay late nomination by July 1 for $50 more, or third option is Sept 1, or you can pay into the futurity the evening before the class at $650.00 late entry)
8. Memberships: Every participant must be a member of WCHA. The stallion owner that nominates his stallion, the owner of the futurity entry and every exhibitor. For membership form go to www.conformationhorse.com and print off form and send separate check payable to WCHA with your entries.
9. Can I send my stall and RV reservations with my futurity entry ? NO. These must be paid directly to Iowa Quarter Horse Association. Call 641-343-7252 or email [email protected] . Stalling reservations are on first paid basis so I’d recommend getting your reservations in soon.
10. What time will the WCHA futurities be held? 7:30 a.m. on the Saturday the 24th and Sunday the 25th. The weanling fillies and yearling mares on Saturday and the weanling and yearling stallions and geldings on Sunday. The Breeders Cup and Iowa Futurities along with an AQHA show will be held starting on Thursday and ending Sunday evening so they’re expecting to fill all the stalls.
11. I want to enter one weanling with a non pro exhibitor and it is a palomino so I want to show in the color class, how much do I send with this early bird nomination? $50.00 for the nomination and office fee plus an additional $50 for the non pro and $50 for the color, payable to WCHA Breeders Futurity. Also send separate check with membership dues payable to WCHA.
12. My entry is a palomino that has registry in both the palomino and the pinto breed associations, can I enter it in multiple color classes. No, pick one.
13. A total of Fifty Six (56) trophies will be awarded to stallion owners and champions of each futurity, these trophies depict the WCHA standard horse and will be of the highest quality. We’ll need sponsors to fund the cost of these trophies so that all the money collected from stallion nomination can go directly into the purse. Please contact the WCHA office if you’d like to sponsor one of the classes, you’ll be recognized in the program and award presentations.
We ended up with 72 stallions that either sent their nomination form in or called to say they wanted their stallion enrolled, to date a handful of stallion owners have not paid their nomination fee in full either by only sending 1/2 or by not sending the total advertised stud fee. If you’re one of these stallion owners you need to send in the balance of the stud fee immediately along with the late penalty fee assessed or risk expulsion from the program.
On another note, KC Montgomery has completed a Paint horse in the WCHA Standard……… it looks GREAT !! Watch for it coming out soon.
