The Appaloosa Horse Club has taken the precaution of temporarily suspending competition scheduled for Wednesday October 26th at the World Championship Appaloosa Show in Fort Worth pending official test results for a horse exhibiting neurological symptoms. With the advice of on-site veterinarians, the Will Rogers Equestrian Center is prohibiting the movement of horses into or out of the facility and has specifically quarantined one barn. Additional biosecurity measures have been implemented and exhibitors are cooperating in an effort to mitigate any potential risks of infection. Laboratory results are expected by later in the day on Wednesday.
APHA released the following statement on 10/26:
APHA is closely monitoring
the potential health issue involving one horse that arrived on the grounds of
the Appaloosa World Show currently being held at Will Rogers Memorial Center in
Fort Worth, Texas. The horse has been tested, with results expected back from
UC Davis later this evening. As information becomes available APHA will post
all updates on the Health Update section of our apha.com website, as well as on
Facebook and Twitter.
The facility has in place bio security measures and are taking all precautions
to manage the situation.
At this time the facility is quarantined for precautionary measures, and we
will provide immediate updates to keep you advised of any changes impacting the
APHA World Championship Show.
