GoHorseShow.com readers followed in horror as devastating tornadoes leveled numerous horse farms Alabama and Tennessee in April. What made this the most read story of 2011 was not only the tragedy and loss, but reporting on the subsequent generosity of the horse show community.
GoHorseShow.com’s senior writer and AQHA and APHA judge, Laura Gilmer, through monetary donations from our readers, was able to raise an amazing $8,325! On behalf of GoHorseShow.com’s readers and our amazing community, Laura gave $2,775 each to the Ellis Family, the Hughes family, and Donna Preskitt’s 5W Ranch.

You May Need A Commercial Driver’s License

The 3rd most read story of 2011 raised awareness about the potential need for a Commercial Driver’s Licenses for some people in the horse show world. In the end, it was determined that as long as you are not in commerce you do not need a CDL license but many police officers do not necessarily understand the intricacies of the laws.

World and Congress Champion One Lazy Investment Sells

Many horses changed hands in 2011 but the one that our readers were the most interested in was World and Congress Champion, One Lazy Investment. Tanya Relander won the Amateur Pleasure at the World Show in 2010 and sold him to Peek Owen for his daughter, Virginia. Little did the Owen family know that “Lazy” would win the Junior Western Pleasure at the 2011 World Show months later.
