The Michigan Quarter Horse Youth Association donated six-hundred and forty-three dollars to the Renew Therapeutic Riding Center in Holland, Michigan at the organization’s annual banquet this past weekend. The idea was the brain child of two youth members, Samantha Chiodo and Bethany Andrews.
In 2010, the two young ladies presented an idea to the board to start a charity, and Every Hoof Helps, was born. Throughout the year, the youth put on fundraisers and donated a portion to the charity. The idea was inspired by a little girl in Michigan who was brain damaged following a horse riding accident.
“Every Hoof Helps actually started out as a senior project Bethany Andrews and I came up with,” Sam Chiodo told GoHorseShow. “Then, as we put more time and planning into it, we realized that it could work as a fundraiser for the Michigan Quarter Horse Youth Association.”
As Andrews and Chiodo are both members of the board, they proposed the idea at the annual meeting. “To kick off our new fundraiser, we started it at a tack sale/horseshow in Lansing, Michigan. We used the Michael Jackson game for the Wii to get people excited, and it was a big hit,” Chiodo said.
This year MQHYA are selling bracelets for $5.00 and T-Shirts for $12.00 where fifty-percent of all the proceeds go to a therapeutic riding program at the end of the year.
