Vern Habighorst Buys Back RPL My Te Cheerful

Vern Habighorst of Scottsdale, Arizona must have been given a hard time this past year by his granddaughters for selling RPL My Te Cheerful to Josh Weakly because he just bought him back for them to show.

“Well, yeah, they weren’t too thrilled with me selling Henry, but luckily, Josh agreed to let me buy him back,” Vern told GoHorseShow. “Everything has a price, and he now has a forever home, and he isn’t going anywhere.”

The ten-time World Champion and multiple Congress Champion will be shown by his granddaughter, Monica and Vern will also get back into the show arena and will continue showing him. Henry currently stays at trainer Tyler O’Neal’s place in Athens, Texas.

“He is really easy to show, and we never have a problem with him,” Habighorst says. “Henry has great legs, and he gets exercised for about six to seven minutes a day and then he goes to sleep in his stall.”

Josh Weakly said that Vern approached him at the Congress about buying him back. “I really won everything I could with him, and I like cleaning house and starting over every year,” he says. “He is so competitive and there really isn’t another horse right now that can compare to him—he is truly one-of-a-kind, and I think Vern just decided that they couldn’t do any better so they wanted him back.”

RPL My Te Cheerful is considered by many to be one of the greatest halter horses of all time. With Weakly, Henry was the 2011 World Champion in Open and Amateur Aged Geldings as well as Congress Champion in the Open and Aged Geldings while standing Grand Champion Gelding in both classes.

AQHA President Peter J Cofrancesco, III of Sparta, New Jersey previously owned Henry and says he is, “One of the greatest horses I have ever had the privilege to own and show.”
