Rodrock Candids From Harbor Classic in Michigan

The Harbor Classic was held in Ludington, Michigan, July 3rd – July 8th. The weather was HOT HOT HOT for most of the week, and the classes were much larger than anyone anticipated with over 400 stalls sold. The MQHA staff worked late every night under tough conditions with no air conditioning in the office! Despite the hot weather, the show ran smoothly and the staff wants to extend special thanks to the West Michigan Fair Association for all their hard work and dedication. The rings were kept watered and groomed to perfection and the grounds were lovely.

The competition was deep with many out of town competitors staying over from the Tom Powers shows. There were beautiful embroidered jackets offered for circuit awards, as well as trophy saddles for the all around winners. There was a fantastic exhibitors dinner held on Saturday evening along with fun and games for kids and adults alike. The stickhorse race was fun to watch and the water balloon fight help cool everyone off. Also on Saturday was the completion of the Queens contest. There were four lovely girls competing for the honor of Michigan Queen, but in the end the honor went to Meghan Murphy from St Clair, Michigan. The MQHYA had a Harris work saddle that was raffled off at this show, and the Great Lakes Quarter Horse Association hosted a root beer float stand, as well as a raffle for an I Pad and other items.

Ludington is a beautiful town and has a gorgeous beach close to the fairgrounds. Riders with any amount of free time could enjoy a bit of relaxation on one of Michigan’s most beautiful beaches. The House of Flavors ice scream store had a line around the block, and there were plenty of interesting stores for a bit of shopping. The Harbor Classic has a reputation for being the FUN quarter horse show of the year, and it didn’t disappoint.
