Select Amateur Overcomes Cancer to Win Congress

GoHorseShow would like to give a quick shout out to Select Amateur April Speyer of Wichita, Kansas who was the unanimous Congress Champions in the Select Amateur Hunter Hack with her horse, Deep Blue Skys.

In 2011, Speyer was diagnosed with colon cancer and spent last year showing while still taking chemotherapy and arranging her chemo sessions around her show schedule. Speyer had 12 treatments from May until end of November, and she spent one month in the hospital and had to undergo two surgeries. Thankfully, earlier this year she was told she was cancer free.

“I really believe her horses and showing helped her get through everything,” her friend, Tara Eubank of Tennessee told GoHorseShow.

Since October is Cancer Awareness Month, we wanted to congratulate Speyer on overcoming her bout with cancer and winning the Congress!
