The December issue of GoMag is always one of our favorites. Advertisers use it to highlight their success from the Congress and/or World Shows as well as to thank their clients or drive sales to their businesses for the holidays. The December issue also kicks off the beginning of the 2013 breeding season and features many great stallions from which to choose.
This issue’s cover comes with an unusual story. It is common for GoMag covers to sell a year in advance and the December 2012 issue was no exception. What isn’t common is what happened after that. When Alexandra Chavez secured the cover, she wasn’t exactly sure which horse she was going to feature. Right after the Congress, she purchased Beautiful Maiden, a bay mare by Allocate Your Assets, and had trainer Stacy Huls show her shortly after in the Junior Hunter Under Saddle at the AQHA World Championship Show. Alex’s new mare won the class and the December 2012 cover now features 2012 AQHA World Champion, Beautiful Maiden, ridden by Stacy Huls.

She grew up a city girl, but on the weekends, Alexandra Chavez got to travel to her father’s Washington state ranch where her love of Quarter Horses began. After time away from the breed she loved, Alex’s husband, Eric, encouraged her to get back in the saddle in 2008.
Three short years later, she took a leap of faith and began her AQHA career at the biggest show of them all… the All American Quarter Horse Congress. With her full of life attitude, Alex decided to “enter it all” with her trusted steed, Hocus Boston Flame with the help of Christy Snyder.
Several NSBA World Show Top Tens and State year-end High Point awards later, Alex was searching for an elite hunter under saddle horse. “When Stacy Huls found Beautiful Maiden, it was like the picture just came together,” said Alex. In less than two weeks this November, not only did she become the proud owner of “AJ”, but also a gold trophy after Stacy brought home the World Championship in Junior Hunter Under Saddle.
With the help of Rusty and Katie Green, Alex is now on the hunt for a top level amateur western pleasure horse. She also has two yearlings that are sure to have a bright future as well under the watchful eye of the Green Team.
With Alex’s entire family supporting her in and out of the show pen, she is simply looking to enjoy the time she has with the animals she considers to be part of her family. “I love my horses win or lose,” says Alex.
