Congress Champion Only Invite The Best Survives Trailer Wreck

GoHorseShow has learned that 2012 Congress Champion, Only Invite The Best (Betty Buckskin), survived a tragic trailer wreck near Pecos, Texas involving several semis, and a motorhome during a sand storm on Saturday, December 15th, 2012. According to Betty’s owner, Cory Seebach– Professional horse transporter, Ray Wegner, of Washington was rear ended by a semi where his rig was crushed all the way up to the rear axle.

There are confirmed reports that one person and one horse died in the accident. Another horse was put down a few days later due to injuries.

Luckily, Betty sustained minor injuries that only required a few stitches, and Seebach told us that his mare was slightly sore on one of her back legs.

“We feel so lucky,” Cory told GoHorseShow. “Ray and his wife, Courtney, were in his truck and both are okay. Jeff William’s new two year-old was also in there next to Betty and he is fine. Unfortunately, one of Denise Callahan’s horses was killed in the accident.”

There are also reports that a horse owned by Al Dunning was on the back of the trailer and that he became loose and ran down the road. Wegner was headed home to Washington when this tragic accident took place. According to Seebach, Wegner has arranged other transportation for the surviving horses.
