The Dixie National Quarter Horse Show, the Southern Classic, is the premier event of the Mississippi Quarter Horse Association. Held February 11th-17th, 2013, on the State Fairgrounds in Jackson, Mississippi, it is the largest quarter horse show held during a stock show in the nation, and it is the third largest quarter horse show in the United States. Some exciting new events including the Ranch Pleasure, Boxing, and Leadline have been added to the showbill.
“The show will have two arenas going with four judges in each pen–that’s four sets of AQHA points,” says Tommy Andrus, who is the chair of the Dixie National Show. “Also, the added money to our already great list of prizes in many of the classes is an extra incentive that many of our exhibitors have learned to look forward to. We welcome the top horses and trainers in the country to our show making the prestige high and the value of competition even higher.”
The Dixie National Equine Expo, the largest equine related trade show in the south, runs in conjunction with the quarter horse show. The Equine Expo features everything imaginable for the equine enthusiast.
“Harris Leather and Teskey’s are just two of the 100 or so vendors to check out during the show,” Andrus says. “On Saturday, Wayne Boyd puts on the Southern Classic fast moving horse sale where you could find your next show horse or trail companion. People will wait all year to come shop the deals we can offer them in the Trade Mart–especially during the Moonlight Madness sponsored by Merial and DeltAg that takes place Friday night after the intense action of the Freestyle Reining.”
The Merial/DeltAg Freestyle Reining event that is one of the favorites of all who come to the Dixie National Quarter Horse Show. With an average audience of over 4500, Freestyle Reining, held on Friday night, is the most crowd pleasing class and demonstrates the great physical ability of the American Quarter Horse.
“It’s an electrifying experience that everyone needs to experience at least once a year,” Andrus states.
