The Michigan Quarter Horse Association held its convention and Stallion Service Sale on January 12th in Lansing, Michigan. This annual meeting of Quarter Horse enthusiasts made for a welcome winter break, with friends gathering from near and far. The Quality Inn was an excellent venue, with attendance for the banquet above last year’s number. Great food, fabulous year end awards, and even a band to keep members dancing until late into the evening made for a enjoyable time for all attending.
The Stallion Service Sale is always a highly anticipated event and was well attended. However, there are still some services available–please contact the MQ office for details.
Elections were held and Karen Waite was elected MQHA president. Michigan has a very active youth association, and the new officers elected to MQHYA for 2013 included President: Michelle McDowell, Vice President: Sasha Glover, Secretary: Miller Lantis, and Reporter: Aubrey Videtich.
MQHA has year end award winners listed on their website, but there were some special awards given at the banquet. Ken Mumy, past president of both AQHA and MQHA, was on hand to present the Michigan Quarter Horse Hall of Fame award to Tim, Lou, Mike, and Michelle Petty of Ocala, Florida for their outstanding contributions to the Quarter Horse Industry. In addition, the great gelding, Wilee Stuff, was inducted into the Hall of Fame. This incredible gelding was owned, shown, and loved by Brandi Baldwin Bunting, daughter of Christa Baldwin (AQHA judge/National director to AQHA). The Richard Moody Scholarship was awarded to Aubrey Videtich, who was also the Justin Rookie of the Year winner in addition to her year end awards. Michelle Warda was recipient of both The Sportsperson of the Year, Member of the Year, and Mother of the Year. Congratulations to all the award winners!
