Winnies Willy First Babies Showing Huge Promise

Superior western pleasure stallion, Winnies Willy (Willy Be Invited X Winnie The Tiger), may stand in the shadow of his other stablemates, Invitation Only and Lazy Loper, but he is starting to make a name for himself in the breeding arena.

His first set of babies are now two year-olds, and General Manager of Pine View Farm, Debbi Trubee along with Roger Landis, says that Willy is passing on his great conformation, beautiful head, and disposition to his offspring. The 2004, 15.2 hand bay stallion is owned by Deborah Cook of Bellevue, Ohio.

“We have used the saying, ‘Building Them Right’, for some of Willy’s ads because it is just uncanny how prolific he is stamping his babies,” Trubee states. “One after another has the same exact structure with a little short back, very square made and pretty little heads. He is passing on his dam’s incredible genetics–Winnie The Tiger who is the dam of Good Version, Winnie Pine Bar, Good And Pretty, and her offspring have earned Congress Championships as well as over $35,000 in money earnings.”

Winnies Willy is looking forward to the success of one of his gorgeous offspring, Willy Good Investmnt (Freckles) as he heads into the summer futurity season with trainers, JD Koffel and Ashley Wood of Nelsonville, Ohio. The two year-old gray gelding is proudly owned by Dave and Patrice Tornes and is from the very first crop of Winnies Willy babies.

“They are super trainable and great minded!” says Wood, whose fiance JD Koffel will be showing him in the limited two year-old futurities this show season.”They all seem to be great boned and very sturdy. The talent level is phenomenal and Willy is really stamping them all equally. We just bought two more–we love them!” (pictured left)

Like so many other horse enthusiasts, Debbie Barwick Williams of Fincastle, Virginia loved watching the young Invy’s and Lazy’s, but from the beginning there was just something about the “Winnie” babies that really pushed her buttons. “I kept thinking, I really want one of this young stallion’s babies! I was intrigued with a colt named, Willy Goin Slow, from the first time I saw his video as a young yearling,” Williams states. “He was cute as could be, flat up front and deep behind, but what caught my eye the most was how balanced he was when he jogged and loped around…just a real natural.”

After purchasing him, Williams took him to her trainers Matt and Beth Gouthro – BMG Show Horses in Staunton, Virginia.

“We are really excited about this colt,” Matt Gouthro states. “He has a ton of natural ability and eye appeal on top of being very trainable. I would definitely try another Winnies Willy or take a look at his future offspring.”

According to Trubee, Willy is doing extremely well this year in bookings. “Once people really began noticing how uniform his babies were–they started calling. We also had a lot of inquiries from the European market for him last year, so we sent frozen semen for the 2013 season and he’s done quite well there on bookings. His first three mares bred in Europe with frozen semen are all pregnant! He ships great and he freezes great, makes for an easy breeding experience for mare owners. Willy will end up breeding around 70 mares for this year.”

Winnies Willy currently stands at Pine View Farm. He is subscribed to the 2013 APHA Breeders Trust.
