Last April, GoHorseShow reported about the passing of Select Amateur, Susan Wilson’s World Champion gelding, Knowtorious (Jaxon) due to degenerative joint disease. Wilson was devastated about his passing and wrestled with the thought of getting back into the arena on a new horse. Wilson and her trainers, Jason Martin and Charlie Cole, have been on a search for a new all-around partner for Susan, and the exhaustive search finally came to an end a few days ago.
Wilson purchased a 2004 sorrel gelding, Zip Me A Dream (Dellbert) after she and her friend, Laurel Champlin saw him on a YouTube video. After practicing with their hunt seat horses at Highpoint Performance Horses, they showed the video to Charlie and Jason and immediately booked a flight the next day to go try him out in Tennessee.
Wilson purchased him from Amateur Susan Ott who has been helped at
the shows by pleasure trainer, Scot Kyle of Burns, Tennessee. However, Ott
has done most of the work on the horse herself and she kept him at home. In the past, Dellbert has been shown in the western pleasure, horsemanship and showmanship where he has picked up points in all three events as well as his superior in the amateur western pleasure. The sweet gelding is by Ziprageous and out of A Dream Invitation.
“We love how he lopes and thought maybe Charlie and Jason could put a lead change on him, teach him to go over poles in trail, and put a horsemanship spin on him too. Being nine years-old, he is just the perfect age and temperament for me. He is really sweet and has a great personality. We just clicked, and I knew after I was on him for two minutes that he was the one I’d been looking for. I’m very excited to see what we can do together in 2014 as he learns some new events.”
Susan adds, “I’ve been back in the arena a bit after Jaxon’s passing on my hunter under saddle horse, So You Say, but, I’ve missed the trail, western riding and horsemanship a lot and have been looking for the right horse which has been next to impossible for me to find,” Wilson says. “It will be hard to go back into those events and just thinking about it makes be cry because I still miss Jaxon every single day. But, at the same time, I’m really excited about Dellbert because he is such a big sweet guy, just like Jaxon was.”
GoHorseShow wishes this new team the best of luck!
