Tidwell Family Brings Home First World Championship

GoHorseShow would like to congratulate Michael and Justine Tidwell on their recent PHBA World Championship with their horse, CowboysAintEasyToLuv (Waylon). Alyssa Casa and Waylon came away with the PHBA World Championship in the Junior Hunter Under Saddle.

“Everyone was watching the video footage online and our cell phones started ringing and ringing,” Waylon’s owner, Justine Tidwell recalls. “He is such a comical horse, and we were always making comments from his perspective when we started hauling him last year. So, we started a Facebook page for him. It was fun reading the congratulations and comments on the page.”

Casa and Waylon also received a Reserve in the All-Age Stakes class, and proud owner, Justine Tidwell, was awarded a Reserve Championship in the Amateur Hunter Under Saddle.

Justine and Michael would like to thank Alyssa for doing such a great job with their talented palomino gelding.

“She has dedicated a lot of time to Waylon and we’re
thrilled for both of them,” says Michael, about Alyssa Casa, who currently works as an assistant for the couple’s trainer, Jason English. “She works hard to get the most out of
him and seems to connect with him–they make a great team.”

CowboysAintEasyToLuv is a three-year old palomino gelding by Willie Be Invited and out of Call Me Snuggles. This new PHBA World Champion was an embryo twin, and he was bred by Waymon and Susie Roberts, of Chatsworth, Georgia.

Last year, Waylon was Top Five at the Tom Powers and NSBA World, and the duo won the color class at the Reichert. This year, the team won the Three Year-Old Non Pro at the Virginia Classic and was third in the Non Pro at the Tom Powers.

“He’s such a puppy dog, and can be a real dead-head–napping in his stall when possible,” says Justine, who along with her husband and son, live in Cartersville, Georgia.

Last year, the couple contacted Georgia trainer, Jason English, about finding two new horses for the family as they were retiring their great show horse, Leaguers Lyric, and looking to have their horses closer to home. English heard about Waylon and thought he would be a great match for Justine.

“In addition to being a good trainer, Jason is a very good coach–that combination makes him easy to ride after,” Michael told GoHorseShow. “He can demonstrate something on the horse and then tell you how to get the same thing. More than anything, however, he’s a hard worker. We’ve run into issues or roadblocks and he will get right on solving the problem. He’s also very accommodating and understands that our family comes first. He’s also very respectful and treats us like clients. I’ve ridden with trainers that treated me poorly, or disrespectfully in the past, and have vowed to never pay to be treated badly again.”

In addition to the couple owning Waylon and Leaguer’s Lyric, Michael, shows Silk N Sudden, (Calli) in the Non-Pro Western Pleasure. English also found Calli for Michael where this new team placed third at the Tom Powers and NSBA World last year and won the Reichert. This year, the duo were circuit champions at the Alabama Summer Sizzler.

“The quarter horse and futurity judges have been really good to us,” Justine says. “Winning the Palomino World is incredible, and it feels great owning a World Champion. I love showing horses. I’ve done it all my life and eventually met my husband because of showing. We both really enjoy the futurities, and would ultimately like to continue with young horses. We have so many friends at the shows and enjoy being a part of the quarter horse community.”
