GoHorseShow would like to congratulate 2012 AQHA World Champion Junior Barrel Racer, Slick By Design, on earning enough money to guarantee himself a trip to the National Finals Rodeo (NFR). The Top 15 are finalized on September 30th, but Slick has already earned more money than what it normally takes to make the top 15.
Slick is owned by Charlie Cole and Jason Martin of Highpoint Performance Horses, and the 2007 black stallion is currently being run by Michele McLeod of Whitesboro, Texas.
“It is incredible that Slick even made it to the NFR,” says Charlie Cole, who is justifiably excited about the prospect of Slick showing in Vegas. “He wasn’t able to do any of the fall or winter rodeos because he had knee surgery and his first run wasn’t until April. In four months on the Pro Rodeo Circuit, he has won, $77,775 and is now number five in the world standings.”
Cole adds, “Slick is only six years-old. It would be like a four year-old beating Harley D Zip in the western riding. What he has accomplished in such a short time is amazing.”
Last week, Slick By Design won over $25,000 in three rodeos–including winning The Snake River Stampede in Nampa, Idaho and was reserve at Cheyenne this past weekend which is known as the, “Grand Daddy of them all”, and is the biggest outdoor rodeo in the United States. On May 25th, Slick also won the Old Fort Days Derby in Fort Smith, Arkansas for a big paycheck–$29,489.67.
During the NFR, Slick and McLeod will be competing in 10 rounds. The rodeo pays the top 6 placings every round and the duo will be vying for the top prize where the average winner takes home an impressive $48,000 paycheck.
We wish Charlie, Jason, Michele, and Slick the best of luck in Vegas in December!
