About The Cover
“Horses aren’t my whole life…they make my life
whole,” says 16 year-old, Virginia Owen of Piedmont, South Carolina. “I have loved Quarter Horses since I
was able to sit up.” In March
2011, Virginia’s father surprised her with a very special gelding, World
Champion, One Lazy Investment. “I got to ride him and instantly fell in love!”
Since that memorable day, Virginia and Lazy have been
crowned unanimous Congress Champions in 12-14 Western Pleasure, Reserve
Congress Champions in Novice Youth 13 & Under Western Pleasure and have
been Top-10 at the Youth World in Western Pleasure.
Kenny Lakins, who Owen trains with, won the Junior Western
Pleasure at the AQHA World Championship Show in 2011 for Lazy’s second World
Champion title. “Kenny and Ashley Lakins have helped Lazy and me become a
better team in and out of the show pen,” says Virginia. “Everyone in their barn
helps each other and we cheer each other on.”
Virginia also shows Classic Coupe in Trail, Horsemanship and
Western Riding under the guidance of Cheryl Hawkins in Ocala, Florida. “I love
riding with Cheryl and Jennifer Johnson and they have taught me so much in all
the events I do with them.”
Virgnia adds, “I greatly appreciate the opportunity and support that my
dad, mom and Nancy Kennedy have given me in my horse life.”
Be sure to watch for Virginia and Lazy at the Youth World in
Western Pleasure.
