AQHA and NSBA World Champion, VS Flatline made his mark this year at the NSBA World Show with wins in the Three Year- Old BCF Western Pleasure, Three Year-Old Open Western Pleasure with Jay Starnes, and the Three Year-Old Non Pro Western Pleasure class with owner, Kristen Galyean in the saddle.
What many in the industry may not know is that Kobe and Starnes also won their debut in the Junior Western Pleasure with three firsts and a second at the NSBA World Show. Kobe beat fourteen other talented pleasure horses that have been shown one handed considerably longer than this talented bay roan stallion.
“We weren’t going to show him in the Junior Western Pleasure until next year because he is still doing the Three Year-Old events but he was doing so great riding around in the bit–we thought why not,” Kristen explains. “Jay has done an incredible job getting him into show shape in two months after a very heavy breeding schedule. He bred over 100 mares in his first year and bred some of the best mares in the industry, so, we are ecstatic for his first foal crop to arrive.”
Kristen adds, “I wasn’t sure how he would be coming back from breeding that many mares, but the only problem I had showing was keeping him going. He is the most laid back and relaxed horse I’ve ever been around.”
We asked Galyean if Kobe would be making a debut in another class anytime soon–maybe the western riding?
“I think his demeanor will be great for the western riding and we look forward to that in his future,” Kristen says. “He has so much natural lift. I can’t wait to see him change leads but for now we are enjoying getting to show him in the pleasure because he makes it so much fun.”
Look out for Jay and Kristen and Kobe in the Three Year-Old events at the Congress as well as in the Junior Western Pleasure.
Galyean also encourages mare owners to get their contracts in early due to his 2014 book filling up fast. “We look forward to the 2014 breeding season,” Kristen says.”He will continue to stand at Highpoint Performance Horses in 2014!”
