Ruth Ellen of Frisco, Texas, is well known in the industry for buying and selling some of the top horses in the industry through her company, The Horse Source. Like most horse lovers, Ellen also has a special place in her heart for rescue dogs. At The recent NSBA World, Ellen and her rescue dog, Fritzee were spreading the word about a charitable organization known as WagAware. Ellen shared her thoughts about the charity and why she encourages more people to donate and spread the word.
In Ruth Ellen’s Own Words
The WagAware Charm is the only charm that saves dogs’ lives by promoting dog rescue/adoption and raising funds to address pet homelessness in a meaningful and fun way. The WagAware Charm encourages people not to turn away but to do something, even just a little bit, because together, and with teamwork, if we all contribute a bit, we can do something amazing together.
I found WagAware through a Facebook link and immediately ordered three charms ($14.95 each): one for Fritzee, one for her big sister, Zoey, and one for her best friend, Huey Wainscott. I became intrigued with the idea that the founder donates 50% of the profits to helping dogs in need.
Then, I started thinking about all my horse show friends who have rescued and adopted dogs…almost everyone! Since Fritzee was a rescue dog, I thought it might be a good idea for her, not only to be an advocate for canine rescue and adoption, but also to participate in selling the WagAware charms.
I called WagAware’s founder, Samantha Haas and introduced myself. I told her about The Horse Source, Inc and that I was usually quite visible at many of the shows. Then, I suggested that she send a few charms to me so that I could take them to the NSBA World Show. She sent 20. When we got to the show, I pinned the charms on Fritzee’s harness. Fritzee pranced around with them as if she understood what we were doing. By day two, all the charms were sold! I happily sent WagAware $300.
Samantha has sent another 30 charms at my second request. No one escapes: my car dealer who has a rescued dog, my hairdresser who saved a dog along the highway, and, of course, my many horsey friends who already have either bought one, or asked that I put one aside for them.
You can purchase them directly from WagAware by going to their website by clicking here or message me and I’ll be sure to get one to you. Also, watch out for me at The Reichert and Congress! Also, you can email WagAware directly at [email protected] if you have any trouble purchasing!
