Ted Turner Wins BHF $100,000 Open Two Year Old Futurity

GoHorseShow would like to congratulate legendary halter trainer, Ted Turner, on an impressive win with Beyond Value at the Breeder’s Halter Futurity this past week in Des Moines, Iowa. The 2011 chestnut stallion by Self Employed and out of Shes Irreplaceable, came away as the Open Two Year Old Futurity Champion of Champions winner with a paycheck of $100,000.

“Thank you to the McCary and Williams families for letting us be a part of it,” says Ted Turner after his huge win. “It was a super venue and it was the first time anything like this has been done, and it was great for the halter industry.”

The striking stallion is owned by Kevin McCrary of Mansfield, Texas and was bred by Firman Yoder of Sugarcreek, Ohio. Turner, who has had the stallion for the past five months, says that he is a really nice horse.

“He is by Self Employed which I used to own a part of, so, it was pretty cool to win with one of his babies,” Turner told GoHorseShow. “He is a big pretty horse with a phenomenal neck that wants to be a show horse.”

Beyond Value is qualified for the Open and Amateur AQHA World Show in the Two Year-Old Stallions and will be shown by Kevin McCrary in the amateur. It is still undetermined who will show him in the open as Turner is already committed to show another horse at this time.

As for the the rules for the Champions of Champions class, the placings were a unified decision of a three judge panel so there were no individual judges’ placings announced for the overall winner. In order to be eligible for this open class, the entrant must have been sired by one of the 50 stallion slot owners and the prospect must have been nominated from a weanling through its two year-old year by the mare owner. There were three separate two year-old classes–mares, stallions, and geldings with the winner of each class going to the Champions of Champions class where one winner was named.

There was also an Amateur Two Year-Old Futurity where the entrant had to be sired by one of the eleven amateur stallion slot owners. The prospect also had to be nominated from a weanling through its two year-old year by the mare owner. This year’s amateur $100,000 winner was a paint stallion, Intent, which was owned and shown by Melinda Minnis of Diamond 2M Show Horses located in Sanger, Texas. The gorgeous paint stallion is by My Intention and out of Traditionsmistress Too and was bred by Jim and Georgia Snow.

“It was an excellent show with lots of money for youth, open and amateur,” says Ross Roark, whose horses won nearly $50,000 at the show. “It was a very well judged show, and I just see it getting bigger and better each year.”
