Bridleless Calcutta at Tom Powers to Benefit NSBA Crisis Fund

The NSBA Crisis Fund wants to know if you are ready to take it all off and go bridleless? They invite everyone to join them at the Tom Powers Futurity in Berrien Springs, Michigan in June to watch and bid on the riders that will compete in a bridleless western pleasure class to benefit the NSBA Crisis Fund. They are looking for riders and horses for the event. It is open to all professional horse trainers–any horse, age, and breed are allowed. There is an $100 entry fee and all AQHA and NSBA rules apply. It will be a fun event for a great cause!

“I was trying to come up with creative ways to make money for the crisis fund,” says, Sue Dempze, NSBA Foundation Board member. “My daughter, Jenna, came up with the idea of a bridleless calcutta. Her trainer, Gil Galyean, thought it was a great idea, so that is where the idea originated and gained momentum.”

Dempze continues, “The fund is to help trainers in need, so we need all of the trainers to participate and get on board with helping us raise money. NSBA has helped several injured trainers over the past few years, so our fund is getting low and needs to be replenished. Every penny raised will go back into the fund, so we need everyone’s support. Please spread the word!”

Dempze says that she approached Tom Powers about the idea of having the class during his show because he has always been a huge supporter of raising money for the Crisis Fund.

The winner of the class will receive a Blue Ribbon Work Saddle; placings 4-10 will receive a Good Ride certificate for a shirt and a pair of Cinch Jeans, and the riders placing below 10th will be put in a drawing for chances to win prizes such as a $300 gift certificate to Logan’s Steakhouse, a $500 gift certificate from Showtime Clothing, and a pair of Rod Patrick boots. The prizes for second and third place winners are still being worked out.
