GoHorseShow recently saw a post on the Horse Community Journals, Inc Facebook page for job openings as a stable manager and multi-disciplined rider for Cavalia. This mega production touring show based in Canada is the dream job for many equestrians, combining the love of riding horses and gymnastics while being cheered on by a sold out crowd. Being chosen as a member of this show would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and we wanted to find out from some competitors what their ultimate dream job would be. We received some fun and light hearted comments mixed with humanitarian, as well as, of course, horse related answers. Let’s find out what everyone had to say! What is your dream job? We want to know!
Theresa Moran (pictured right)–My actual dream job would be working as a photographer for National Geographic. Not only do I love taking pictures, but I also enjoy exploring new cultures and countries around the world. By immersing yourself in other cultures you are unfamiliar and unaccustomed too, you not only learn more about yourself, but also how the values and traditions of other countries will help you grow in your own life.
Maria Salazar–I would have to say my dream job would be to be Beyonce..for obvious reasons. I’ve always wished I could sing or keep a rhythm (my Latin name is very misleading). Obviously I’m never going to become Beyonce, so instead I’m working at a fitness center folding towels and rolling up yoga mats, but I can hear Beyonce playing on the radio! (laughs)
Erin Bradshaw–My dream job would to be a bad#$% Navy Seal–like the ones that sneak in at night and take down terrorists and you don’t even know they were there. I have always thought that would be so awesome. I could obviously never do it, but I wish I could be like the ones that jump out of the planes and just take down the bad guys and then they’re out of there before you can even blink.
Abby Floyd–My ultimate dream job would be a professional traveler. I love going new places and experiencing different lifestyles. So traveling the world and having all expenses taken care of and getting paid to go would be the ultimate American dream. Some magazines and websites hire people to travel the world and record their experiences there so they can make reports about it.
Sharnai Thompson–I would love to do something football/sports related. Since I can’t really play, or coach, playing fantasy football is not really an occupation, and we’re dreaming big, I’d like to be the NFL Commissioner. Most of the time, it’s not an enviable position, but I think it would be an interesting mix of running an operation while being around a sport you love every day. Sounds a little like being a horse trainer, but not quite.
Shannon Brown–My dream job does not exactly exist. I would love to be a professional amateur. By professional amateur I mean just traveling the country showing as an amateur and somehow getting paid to do that. I would truly love any horse related job. I also think I would have really loved being a physical therapist, watching people improve would be really rewarding.
Darcy Reeve–My ultimate dream job would be a celebrity makeup artist. I would love to do the makeup for the stars on movies and television shows-even win an Oscar! Additionally, I would love to have a cosmetics line that is sold in a store like Sephora. I love the idea of making my own hours and being creative.
Christine Margaret Henry–Even though I love my job as the Show Events and Awards Coordinator at APHA, I would have to say that my dream job would be running a summer camp for kids. I grew up going to a camp in the North Georgia mountains—and eventually was a staff member for several years. From hiking, swimming, camp cheers and chants, to the camp food (which is surprisingly good!) to the co-ed activities, and nightly camp programming, there is always fun to be had. Camp life revolves around positive attitudes, bug bites and bug juice, with a side of silliness. Not to mention, the camp atmosphere creates and encourages good character in staff and campers alike, and to me, few things are as rewarding as contributing to a kid’s character and having good time simultaneously.
Cathrin Gutmann–Right now I have to say I am really living my dream. I have a wonderful family- a very supportive husband and a super cute little daughter and in addition to that I can work my horses at home. I’m now training five horses myself including the first home bred two year-old this year. It was a big step for me but I’m very happy I decided to do so. In addition to that, I’m happy to be able to continue to improve my skills learning from the best trainers in the US and showing there whenever I don’t have any obligations in Europe. I hope I can continue as well as improve that way and that I will be able to breed, train and sell my horses for many years to come. Horses always have been my passion since I was a little child and I think if you’re able to find and to do what you love and willing to work hard for it every day it’s the best thing you can have.
Sarah Rosciti–I think my dream job would be a show groom for a big Hunter stable or something like the US Equestrian Team. I love turning our horses out for shows, it doesn’t matter if it’s the smallest weekend show or the Congress– they always look ready. I think it’s because I am a little OCD– I really enjoy all the small details that go into grooming and show prep.
Dawn Haas Myers–The first is to be a doctor. I studied medicine and continue to study it. I am just fascinated with the human body and how everything has to work together in the body. If one thing is out of kilter, so many other organs, tissues, etc are affected. The second dream job would be a chef. Much like studying the human body, studying how foods and flavors work together is something I’ve done my entire life. There is nothing I won’t try to eat. I love how changing one flavor or one ingredient can make a delicious or not so delicious new dish.
Eric Mendrysa–I’ve always wanted to be an international news broadcaster. If I could take someone’s job, it would be Anderson Cooper’s at CNN. In high school and college that is something I was always interested in and something I wish I would have pursued. Being able to travel and be a part of international news would be fascinating.
Farley Sliss–I have two and they are both very different. One would be a professional house flipper and the other would be a soccer player for the US women’s team.
Leonie Fischer–My dream job is of course horse related – I want to become a vet to help all the sick horses out there. I want to specialize in breeding and make embryo transfers more popular in our part of Germany.
Jason Wanderer–As long as I can remember I have always wanted to be an Emergency Medicine physician. However, math and science were never my strongest subjects so I went in another direction.
Lauren Michelle Kelly–It would probably be a Chief Operations Officer for a company like Apple, Samsung, Adobe, or Google. I have a background in computers and technology, and I love the idea of being in the forefront of technological innovation. I would be well-compensated and get to travel often. Not sure how much time I’d have for showing, but I’m sure I could make time.
Cheryl Hawkins–Well growing up I had my own tournament bass boat. I fished a lot of the bass tournaments around the state. So being on the water comes very natural for me. My ultimate dream job would be a captain on a privately owned mega yacht that travels around the world. There would be nothing more exciting than backing into the docks and spending months in the southern Caribbean. Then, setting sail across the magnificent open ocean for the south of France. Of course, you would need a great crew too!
Charlotte Selby–My dream job is to become an international criminal lawyer. I’ve always been interested in international relations and I love languages but at the same time I love law and have always been really interested in it. So, I’ve been thinking for a while about prosecuting war criminals and human trafficking because its a huge problem in the Seattle area. Then, work in someplace like the International Criminal Court, it’s in the Hague where warlords and human crimes are prosecuted in Europe.
Jessica Wolf Hart–As similar as this may sound, since I own a show clothing company, my dream job always has (and always will be) to be a NYC Fashion Buyer. Ever since I was little, I was always in love with fashion, and I wanted to be a buyer for Nordstroms.
Austin Gooding–My dream job would be the general manager of a professional sports team. My uncle, Justin Gooding and I have always followed all the drafts very closely and follow young prospects in all three major sports very closely. I participate in dozens of fantasy leagues each year in all sports. Until I get that call though, training horses is a dream job itself.
Carli Pitts–My dream job would be a horse trainer. I can’t imagine my life without horses, my parents are both trainers and it’s just in my blood. I love riding different horses everyday and seeing the progress in young ones. The training aspect is great, that’s what I love, then you get the advantage of going to shows and showing which makes it the perfect dream job. My plan after college is to actually become a professional horse trainer.
Anne-Marie Fortenberry–If there was a job where I could backpack all over the world and just take pictures, learn the culture, meet people from all different countries, I would absolutely love to do that. Also, I would love to be an international lawyer and handle big business disputes. I plan on majoring in law when I go to college, so hopefully I can get to that level… Basically anything with traveling around the world, I’m up for it!
Tanna Suits— It would be amazing to make my own hours and spend more time with my boys. I love to travel. Anything would be a fun “job” if it involved horses and family. I think it would be awesome to get paid to travel all over the country buying horses for other people and on their dime…not mine. Another thought would be a travel agent because you get to visit all these different destinations so you can help your clients better decide where they want to go on vacation.
Ruth Ellen–My dream job would be working in a rehab facility for wildlife and being the person that sets them free when they are well enough to go back to the wild.
Katie Van Slyke–I think if I could choose; I’d love to be a famous singer. I love to sing now, but to be able to have the confidence and skill to sing in front of thousands of people would be unbelievable. To be able to experience such a glamorous life for myself would be rewarding, but I believe it would give me the opportunity to help others on a larger scale and really make a difference in others lives.
Brad Ost–My dream job would a professional baseball player. I love the game, and I still have an extremely competitive nature.
Jenna Dempze--I really have a dream job working with my family, but if I could do something else, I’d be in the kitchen. I love cooking and baking. I love making things for other people, being in the kitchen is relaxing and rewarding for me. It would be fun just to be able to cook for my family and friends all the time.
