SmartPak recently announced that 25-year old AQHA gelding, Future Millionaire, was being honored as their Horse of the Month for August. “Money” is retired from the show ring and is an essential part of the Therapeutic Riding Program at Miles of Smiles in Garden City, Kansas. SmartPak’s article mentioned that Money is worth his weight in gold as an equine assisted therapy horse having helped more students than they can count. One person who took particular interest in the article was former owner and multiple World Champion exhibitor, Darcy Reeve.
Reeve shared with GoHorseShow.com her history with Money.
“Money was my 13 and under horse. We bought him from one of Beckey Schooler’s customers after she won the showmanship with him at the Select World in 2003. I started showing him in early 2004 in the All-around. He was the horse that taught me to ride and the horse that took care of me as I was learning. I remember winning showmanship, horsemanship, trail, equitation, and pleasure on him multiple times and sometimes all on the same day. When I transitioned into 14-18 I decided to specialize more and then came Vino (A Certain Vino) and Kramer (Ima Petite Classic), but instead of selling Money, we decided to retire him in our pasture.
Miles of Smiles is an amazing program in my home town of Garden City, Kansas, and my family has always admired their work with the disabled. With Money being still fairly young, and a patient, trustworthy horse, my Dad thought he would be the perfect addition to their program. Right now he lives at the Miles of Smiles facility for a few months, and the rest of the year he spends in our pasture!
My Cousin shared the SmartPak article with me and I also saw it
circulate around Facebook by my friends from home who volunteer at Miles
of Smiles. The SmartPak article brought me to tears once I saw how Money is
still changing people’s lives.”
