Cathrin Gutmann of Austria is known for owning and showing some outstanding horses in Europe and in the United States. Last year, she won the Congress in the Amateur Hunter Under Saddle with Blue Couture. This year, Gutmann has added another champion, Boys Move Over, to her lineup.
“I liked her at the Tom Powers (in June) when I first saw her,” Cathrin recalls. “But when she stepped out into the warm up pen at the World Show, she was so amazing, and I just couldn’t take my eyes off her. I wasn’t really looking for another mare by Skys Blue Boy, but when my mare, Sky (Blue Couture) was injured; it started to make more sense for me to purchase her as I needed a new horse to show.”
Known as “Black Betty”, the 2011 black mare by Skys Blue Boy and out of Lil Bit A Art is off an outstanding AQHA World Championship Show. Black Betty won a World Championship in Junior Hunter Under Saddle with Nancy Sue Ryan in the irons and a Reserve World Championship in Amateur Hunter Under Saddle with Ryan’s daughter, Courtney Brockmueller of Whitesboro, Texas. Betty is also a multiple NSBA World Champion.
“I really think this is the style of horse AQHA is looking for,” says multiple AQHA World Champion and judge, Nancy Sue Ryan. “She has a great top line and natural forward movement. Her trot is so big, yet soft and her canter is cadenced. She just looks like a horse who could easily make the distances down a line with ease.”
In March of 2014, Ryan and Brockmueller purchased Betty from Ashley Bland who had her in training with Highpoint Performance Horses. According to Courtney, the gorgeous black mare immediately felt like a family member.
“Black Betty holds a dear spot in our hearts for several reasons,” Courtney told us. “She has always proved to me she really wanted to be a show horse. Betty has that something extra that makes her special. It cannot be trained into a horse–they either have it or they don’t. She is pure and simply a show horse and she loves her job, and, of course, all the attention that comes with it!”
Brockmueller continues, “We’ve had the opportunity to get to know Cathrin through horse showing the past few years, and I have always felt she was a lovely and gracious person-inside and out. She’s the first to tell you ‘congrats’ or ‘nice ride’ and takes pristine care of her horses. We are extremely excited for my mother (Nancy Sue) to continue showing her and preparing her as well. I look forward to watching this team grow and show. I will be their biggest fans!”
Boys Move Over will remain at Show Stop Farm with Nancy Sue Ryan and Cathrin and Betty will make their debut in 2015. We wish this new team the best of luck!
