We are thrilled to announce that youth competitor Alexis Potts of Fountain Inn, South Carolina, has sold her beloved all-around gelding Mouse Trapped to amateur Emma Edwards of Dallas, Texas.
Potts just finished showing at her final AQHYA World Show. Both she and Edwards have been at the top of the standings throughout their successful show careers. Potts and Mouse Trapped, affectionately known as Tater Tot, are multiple Congress, NSBA and Reserve World Champions. Edwards and her former horse, This Is Why Im Here, were Congress, NSBA and AQHA World Champions.
Replacing This Is Why Im Here was no easy task and Emma looks forward to owning a horse as accomplished as Mouse Trapped. “I can’t thank the Potts Family enough for passing over the reins to me,” Edwards says. “I’ve watched Alexis show Tater Tot over the last couple of years and always admired what a wonderful team they made, succeeding in multiple events. He is so willing and has the sweetest personality. I am so excited to return to the all-around pen with him.”
The Potts family owned the 2017 chestnut gelding since he was two years old. “I first saw him loping around the overhang at the Congress and instantly knew he was the one. We had ridden at least 17 horses before him, but knew we had to stay patient to find the perfect horse, and he turned out to be exactly that,” Alexis recalls.
“Deciding to sell a horse that is special is never easy, but he helped me accomplish things beyond my wildest dreams,” Alexis continued. “With my youth career coming to a close, it seemed like the perfect time for us both to start a new chapter.”
Alexis says that her true love is developing young horses and teaching them the all-around events, which made this process with Tater so fun. She looks forward to hopefully doing that again as she moves into amateur competition next year.
They have accomplished many incredible wins together, including the Congress, NSBA World, and Youth World Show, but her favorite memories are when he shows his “goofy” personality.
“He’s a very happy horse with a lot of heart. He always wants to be right up next to someone or playing with whatever he can get his mouth on,” Alexis says. “He is easily recognized for his floppy ears, which immediately perk up when he enters the show pen and begins to lick his lips. His expression and how much he loves his job is what I believe makes him a champion, and I can’t wait to be his and Emma’s biggest cheerleaders.”
Edwards and Mouse Trapped will be under the supervision of Troy Lehn and Brad Ost of Empyre Show Horses. ”I love working with them. Their attention to detail and care for their horses is unmatched. I’m thrilled to continue my show career with Tater under their guidance.”
Trainer, Troy Lehn is also excited about this new team. “I think Emma and Tater will be a perfect match. She’s a great rider with the ability to develop a deep connection with her horse. Tater has a great presence in the arena, and I look forward to seeing how they progress in the show pen.”
