Multiple Congress Champion Best Brew At The Bar to Stand at Gumz Farms in 2022

New owner Verneda Pabon to stand 4-time Congress Champion Best Brew At The Bar at Gumz Farm for 2022 breeding season.

Amy Gumz of Gumz Farms is excited to announce that Best Brew At The Bar will be standing at Gumz Farms in Morganfield, Kentucky starting in 2022. New owner Verneda Pabon of Sarasota, Florida, purchased Best Brew At The Bar at the end of October. This 2015 stallion is by The Best Martini and out of Prissy Leggs. This successful young stallion has made an enormous splash in the show pen, and Gumz says she looks forward to seeing his success in the breeding barn.

Best Brew At The Bar’s former trainer, Katy Jo Zuidema expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the great stallion in the show pen. “Every time he went in the pen, he always tried to be good,” Zuidema told us.

In combination with his exceptional movement, his disposition has guided him to a very successful show career to date. He was the Champion at some of the top futurities in the country, including the Tom Powers, Fun In The Sun, Show For Dough and Southern Belle Breeders.

From 2018 to 2021, he captured multiple National Snaffle Bit Association World and Reserve World titles, Breeders Championship Futurity Champion and Reserve Champion titles, and multiple Champion titles at the Tom Powers. Additionally, he has won multiple Champion and Reserve Champion titles in the Western Pleasure at the AQHA Congress with multiple top 10 placings in the Amateur, Junior, Limited and Senior Western Pleasure the AQHA World Show.

The stallion’s new owner, Verneda Pabon affectionately refers to him as “Poppy” as part of the family tradition of naming new horses with her son. Pabon is excited to continue showing Poppy in the all-around events under the guidance of Whitney Lagace and Colton LaSusa of LaSusa Lagace LLC in Higganum, Connecticut.

Lagace said, “We are excited to start his western riding career [with us]. Verneda and one of us will be showing him in the trail, western pleasure and halter. We feel he is going to excel in the all-around.”

Whitney characterized the stallion as, “exceptionally good-minded to work with on the ground and under saddle. He is a sweet horse to be around and loves attention. You truly would not know he is a stallion when working with him. He is so athletic over the poles and changing leads. It’s awesome to see a horse transition so easily from the rail to other events. He also has a cute trick of taking off his halter within seconds if you turn your back on him.”

Lagace and LaSusa have been looking for a special horse for Pabon for some time. After seeing Poppy at the AQHA Congress being shown by Dave Archer as a two-year-old, they followed his career with trainers Tim and Katy Jo Zuidema.

Whitney said, “We knew Verneda would be the perfect owner,” so they approached Zuidema about purchasing the stallion at the WEC Championship Show. “We are so fortunate that the timing worked out for all. Right time, right place and we are so thankful for him to be part of the barn,” exclaimed Lagace. 

Pabon (pictured right) is not only excited about showing Poppy in the all-around but also transferring this young stallion’s success into the breeding barn. Lagace explained, “For us, he checks all the boxes we are currently looking for in our industry; mind, movement, structure and breeding. He is a son of The Best Martini and out of an exceptional producing mare Prissy Legs, by Zippos Old Gold. We love that he will cross with so many mares in our industry. All of his babies we have seen exhibit many of his characteristics. Best Brew At The Bar seems to put his stamp on his babies.”

Poppy will be standing the 2022 season at Gumz Farms in Morganfield, Kentucky, following a show series in Florida. His breeding manager, Amy Gumz is excited about this young stallion and said, “He is a great outcross for so many of the popular bloodlines.”

Finding a stallion with variation in his pedigree can be difficult, which is why Best Brew At The Bar is a top choice. Poppy allows mare owners to increase genetic variation because his pedigree represents multiple bloodlines.

Poppy will remain at Gumz Farms through a short breeding season. His last collection will be on May 15th to return to the show pen. The current breeding fee will remain at $1500, and his enrollment in futurities will continue. Best Brew At The Bar’s current foal crop is carrying on his impressive traits and proving excellent show prospects. Be on the lookout for this foal crop hitting the show pen in 2022.
