Everyday Ringside Style with Jennifer VanHal of Unbridled TX

We have all seen the stunning ads selling western fashion, the cowgirl drenched in jewelry, wearing a leather coat in the summer sun, sporting her spurs upside down ready to work the ranch.

While the western style has gone mainstream, that’s not always what we see at horse shows. Most trainers and exhibitors need practical, everyday clothing options that are easy to pack and wear.

Since we all come from different parts of the country, have different occupations and different tastes, horse shows are a melting pot of style.

Here are the TOP TEN Ringside Style Trends of 2018

1) Layers
We have all been to that show that was supposed to be beautiful and sunny, but it instead is cold and rainy. Layers give you choices to mix & match. Dressing in layers helps you transition seamlessly throughout the day.

TIP: Try a cute cardigan or kimono to transition your look from practice pen to dinner, plus keep you warm when it cools down.

2) Cami Tops & Bralettes
Undergarments are your best friend at horse shows. Be ready to change anywhere and stay cool until you have to slip that show outfit on. Cami tops help create a smooth, finished look under your favorite show outfit. Bralettes add cute pops of lace and color under any basic top.

TIP: Pair your cami top or bralette with a cute tank or tee for all-day wear. Criss Cross Tanks and Caged Bralettes are very in right now.

3) Bright Colors
Bright colors are all the rage. Go monochromatic or mix them up with the perfect combination – shades of UltraViolet, Citrus and Raspberry scream attitude.

TIP: Pair a solid, bright color shirt with jewelry in a contrasting color, and your look will pop.

4) Trendy Prints
Florals, Camo Print and Candy Color Stripes are hot this summer. Florals have been strong the last few years, but this year 70’s inspired floral is ultra sexy. Also, look for tropical prints like pineapples and flamingos making a more substantial appearance this summer.

TIPS: Mix your prints for a look as unique as you are.

5) Cutouts
Cutout tops make everyone look great, so choose the right cutout for your body type. If you are subconscious about your arms, choose a cold shoulder top. If you’re thicker in the middle, pick tops with cutouts by the neck, it will draw all your attention up to your face and away from your problem area.

TIP: Put that cami or bralette to use and wear it under your cutout shirt for a natural, finished look.

6) Sparkle
Sparkle in the warm-up pen just like the show pen. Shirts with sequin accents, sheen rich fabric button-ups, metallic accents and mixed metal jewelry are going to take you from day to night.

TIP: Pick metallic tones that accent your skin tone.

7) Distressed & Vintage
Look casual and chic when you mix in a little distressed, de-construed or vintage pops into your outfit. Combining a distressed denim shirt or vest can finish a basic outfit.

TIP: Don’t be afraid to break out the scissors and deconstruct that basic tee. Start with a Pinterest tutorial and a free tee for practice; you won’t regret it.

8) Expressive Tees
Let everyone know what you’re thinking without saying a word. To be honest, I thought it would be quick lived, but it just keeps growing and growing.

TIP: Pick something as unique as you are and tell the world how you feel.

9) Fringe
Coats, tees, necklaces, earrings – anything can have fringe. Jewelry with silk, leather and beaded fringe are trendy and a great way to wear this trend without going overboard. Accents of fringe on your tops are also a great way to sport this trend.

TIP: Don’t mix too many fringe pieces at once or it will all blend together.

10) Barn Swag
Showing your love for your favorite stallion, training barn, organization or product will never go out of style in the equine industry. Gone are those boring basic hats and tees, everyone is stepping up their game and making their promotional products more fashion-forward and sought after.

TIP: If you’re making new promo products, think outside the box and pick something memorable everyone will be waiting in line for.
