April Level 1 Championships Issue of GoMag Online Now

As the weather and competition at the shows this spring starts to warm up, GoMag showcases the hottest horses, breeders, owners, trainers, exhibitors and businesses in the industry. The April 2018 issue of GoMag continues our tradition of featuring the AQHA Level 1 Championships. AQHA upped the ante for Level 1 exhibitors in 2016, adding one more centralized show in Oklahoma City and moving the show dates to April and the beginning of May. Level 1 exhibitors have a choice of three shows spanning from Las Vegas, Nevada (West), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (Central) and Wilmington, Ohio (East).

The pages of the April issue of GoMag include numerous ads for these up-and-coming teams, in addition to the familiar faces and products you have grown accustomed to seeing in GoMag.

About the Cover

Amateur exhibitor, Amy Groesfema of Lemoore, California is featured on our April cover with her horse, My Dream Remembered (Hank). Later this month, they will be vying for the Level 1 Amateur All Around title at the Level 1 West Championships in Las Vegas. “I love the venue, and the show schedule gives us a lot of time to practice and prepare for our classes.”

Amy and Hank have already made their mark after a short time together. At last year’s NSBA World Show, after only four months together, this team won the Novice Amateur Showmanship. Amy rides under the guidance of Jenn and Justin Wheeler of Hollister, California.

“I remember thinking to myself, thank God for the support from family and friends, and the push from my trainers to take a risk and show Hank so soon after buying him. It was one of my greatest achievements, and I’m so fortunate to have had the opportunity.”

This year, they have been racking up accomplishments as well. In February, tthis team was the Level 1 Amateur All-Around Champions and Level 2 Reserve Amateur All-Around Champions at the Silver Dollar Circuit (pictured right) and won the circuit in Level 2 Amateur Trail at the Arizona Sun Circuit in March.

Amy talked to us about what she loves about showing Hank. “He is so relaxed while also being a pleaser. He has bleach-blonde mane and tail, and his former owner, Meg Depalma-Whelan used to call him ‘surfer boy,’ which fits him perfectly.”

As a career, Groesfema is real estate broker and started AG Realty a few years ago. She also has two young children, Brynn and Dylan. “If I am not meeting clients or working at my kid’s school, then I am in Hollister riding with Jenn and Justin. My trainers are both amazing people, very hardworking and giving of their time. We have a wonderful working friendship.”

Amy’s future goals include qualifying for her first AQHA World Show. “The honor to compete at such a high level is a reward in itself, but of course, the competitor in me would love to win. I would love to earn a Superior with Hank in showmanship and trail. I have a two-year-old with Jenn and Justin, and I’d love to win some futurities with him this summer and his siblings in the years to follow.”
