Top Producing Mare Shesa Hot Cookie Passes at 28

GoHorseShow sends our condolences to Amy Gumz of Gumz Farms on the passing of her great mare, Shesa Hot Cookie. The 1990 chestnut mare was by Zips Chocolate Chip and out of Beckys Melody. She was bred by Lisa Crossen of Era, Texas. In her show career, “Cookie” accumulated over 400 points in the western pleasure classes. She was 28 years-old.

“Shesa Hot Cookie lived an amazing life with some great owners and trainers,” Gumz shared. “We were blessed to have her for the past ten years and raised some fantastic foals from her. Her legacy will live on in her offspring for generations to come.”

Gumz continues, “I think she raised the bar with her showing career as she won or tied to win every single three-year-old futurity. She continued to stay in the winner’s circle for open and non-pro riders. I think one of her owners, Dana Smith, put it best when she said she qualified her in five rides while noting that she was ‘just tied to her.’” (Dana is paralyzed from the waist down)

Her list of successful foals reads like the who’s who in the western pleasure industry. Cookie had 25 foals over her lifetime with 20 of them performing. Some of her famous offspring include AQHA Reserve Junior World Champion Western Rider, Its A Southern Thing, Sheza Hot Invitation, One Hot Holiday, Invite Me For Cookies, Ima Hot Invitation and Hot Cookies Only, to name a few.

To date, her progeny has amassed 1,777 points in multiple events and $127,375.30 in NSBA futurity earnings.
