Featured on the cover of the Congress issue of GoMag is the gorgeous and talented VS GoodRide, or “Boss” as he has been appropriately nicknamed. The blue roan stallion is owned by Brenda Gower of Alberta, Canada and bred and shown by Jason Martin and Charlie Cole of Highpoint Performance Horses in Pilot Point, Texas.

Boss will be showing at the Congress and AQHA World Show in the Green Western Pleasure, Trail and Western Riding, as well as the Level 3 Trail and Western Riding and Level 2 Junior Western Pleasure.

“He is one of the most talented Junior Western Riders I have ever ridden,” says Jason Martin, who has won more Congress and AQHA World Championships in this class than anybody in history. “He has scored plus 1 and a 1/2’s in the western riding, and I have never had that happen before in my career. And he is only four. He is super talented.”

VS GoodRide’s oldest foals are weanlings and according to Martin, look to be beautiful and flat movers. “He is homozygous for the black gene, so he can not throw red, only dark horses with black points, so that is also a huge plus,” Martin adds.

His owner, Brenda Gower recalls how she came about purchasing him. Her family saw Boss a couple of times in 2018 and they were always drawn to him. Then, during the 2018 World Show, Jason and Charlie released a video showcasing Boss and Brenda said she watched that video a 100 times. She eventually sat the whole family down and they agreed to see if Jason and Charlie would allow them to become his new family. A phone call was made to Jason and the new venture began.

“We love everything about Boss,” Brenda shares. “He truly is an amazing animal. We especially love his demeanor. You would think he is a gelding. Anyone can handle him…he is that gentle. And of course, his coloring is gorgeous and he stands out in the pen. Boss also has tons of try. You can take him to the western pleasure pen to western riding and then trail and he takes it all in stride.”
